I don't know anything about Yu-Gi-Oh, but Crystal isn't exactly "hardcore" so I don't know how that factors into it.

It's was bad example. It was only other anime that had a young fan base in both country. Still it's hard to think of other that had a good dark manga turn light hearted.

Started watching the new anime Owari no Seraph last night, found a manga for it, binged most of the night on it, and now I'm invested in seeing more Vampires die (than I normally already am), and convinced this is an odd mesh between Attack on Titan and Devil Survivor (end of the world, walled cities, demonic creatures hunting humans, factions, etc.).

Yeah sorry, Sailor Moon is definitely way under the level of blood and gore that the Yugioh manga has.

Also the difference is that they still make Yugioh-shows for kids and sell cards to them, I think a full show just to hit nostalgia buttons and please fans that don't follow the franchise anyways is a bad idea.

Maybe an OVA or something, but definitely no full show.

Yup. There's the whole "Random Games" and Kaiba Land/Death-T arc before they even get to full-time Duel Monsters.

This series was great and yeah that scene near the end of the anime was greatly made, hell there were quite a few good scenes throughout that.
