I don't mind this being a reboot. That means they're not restricted by the Power Rangers canon and can tell whatever story they want to tell.

Turbo? Matrix is correct in it being much better than people make it out to be, but it's still VERY restricted by keeping a canon with the story that came before.

For example, lets say all the new Rangers and Justin were there from the start and Justin was Ashley's little brother and the Rangers were summoned by Lerigot (who now actually speaks normal English) to fight a band of roving marauders lead by the evil Divatox who want to destroy the world and ransack it for parts to make their war vehicles stronger and who also have a bizzare sense of humor.

That's not what the casual audience wants or expects, though. For a lot of people this movie is the return of Power Rangers, which they probably assume ended sometime back in the late 90s. The studio is likely banking on that nostalgia as a selling point, ergo reboot.

It has really really bugged me that they've totally changed the ethnic origins of the characters yet retained the names. The original characters were racially diverse so it's obvious the only reason Zack is now Asian, Trini is Hispanic and Billy is black is to dodge the ultra PC crowd nowadays.

They shouldn't have named these characters after the original MMPR. They should be new characters setting out a new timeline.
