Why, though? Ike and Link have been doing it since Brawl back in 2010.
I mean, I know Cloud did it first, but it's not exactly riding the hype train to an attack animation that 3 others share o-o

Yeah, Cloud's a big deal but I don't really feel it's as huge as Ryu turning up was. I guess its just because a Square character came more out of nowhere.

About 3 dollars for characters and about one or two dollars for stages.
Ryu costs about 6 because he comes with some trophies and a stage, i think Cloud will cost that much too.

I can't deny the hype people are feeling for Cloud was the same as what I felt for Ryu, having grown up playing Street Fighter.
It is a hell of a lot more unexpected since his title was kind of the first to not be involved with Nintendo at all.
