Episode was alright. Like last week's, there wasn't much substance. Leo crushes on a girl who is presumably crushing on Yamato, gets jealous, and screws things up trying to impress her. Hilarity ensues. Screws too many things up, so he rushes to fix things, getting his ass kicked along the way. Revelation of why the girl liked Yamato, episode end.
Not much of substance beyond Cube Bear being found, which is neat (With him found and Wolf, Croc, and Rhino all under The World, that means only Whale should be left). There were some bits to enjoy, like Tusk constantly hitting traps and...Tusk constantly hitting traps. Otherwise, it was kind of bland. Leo didn't really learn anything, Yamato's reaction to the girl is kind of fun, but otherwise, eh. ...Why did Azald spell out his plan to the Zyuohgers in such amazing detail? Like, seriously. He literally sabotaged himself (That's not to say the Zyuohgers wouldn't have destroyed the machine, but their tails alerted them to Azald at the base of the mountain, meaning once he was beaten and left, his player would still be at the peak draining energy while everyone else would have climbed a lot more cautiously and slowly).

Oh yes, I forgot about that thing.
It's probably gonna be a super relevant plot point just because I keep forgetting the damn thing exists.

I remembered halfway through the mecha fight that this was supposed to be the Kuma debut episode and was wondering how the hell they were gonna throw it in so late in the game with no buildup. Then "oh shit it's the axe of course it's the axe." Doi.

It was meh... I was super excited when i saw the scans because i thought Cube Kuma introduction would be... special. But wow... It's like the writters completly forget they were supposed to introduce a new toy in this episode... And since i'm not a huge fan of love triangle, i can't say i enjoyed this episode...

This was a fine episode. Nothing too special, but nothing bad either. At the very least, it was an improvement over last week's no morale theater. But I also can't think of too much to say.
It had decent humor. I enjoyed Tusk getting caught in traps and swinging around in the background. I really like that they've been consistent with certain traits or abilities each character has- and I don't if this was an example of it- but I like to think Amu avoiding the mud was thanks to catlike reflexes. I also wonder if the MOW complementing Leo on mountain climbing was meant to be a joke. Can't be sure on that one. Speaking of Leo, I'm thankful that even if he didn't actually learn anything, he at least is willing to admit his faults- and I greatly appreciate even that. Fight scenes were nothing special. I got an unintentional laugh out of the Zyuoh slash finisher, because I swear the graphics they used unfortunately look like giant glowing butt-plugs. Seriously, I don't no how else to describe it. Wild Zyuoh King is still awesome, love seeing how massive and imposing they make it look. But it doesn't do much here. Cube Bear was horribly shoehorned in this episode, which is a shame because more could have been done with it story wise. I'll give credit in two areas, though. 1. they at least gave it a reason to be used over the sword, and 2. there may be an indication that the Birdman is aware of the cube animals. |

I think they were real compliments after he got angry at Yamato for flying up the mountain.

As an episode, it was meh. As a toy debut, it was... still meh.
But the sight of Tusk getting hilariously and horribly punished by bear-traps (kek) was kinda nice. Although I must say, Leo did experience a bit of character growth. He learnt that charging off without a thought is absolutely fine if you activate all the traps along the way. |

I see we're in the middle of a comedic filler period for this series while we wait for the sixth ranger to show up. I actually don't mind, in this case. Zyuohger is putting together some pretty good comedic moments - nothing laugh out loud funny, but generally very amusing. Some of the traps on CGI Mountain were fun, but I think my favorite moment was early on when Leo and the girl were staring at each other in soft focus, then Yamato walked through and the lens filter faded as he passed by. That was cute.
