Hey, I actually have an image for this occasion.
![]() As fun as this discussion is with Shredder destroying the Power Rangers, it's much bigger than that. Have you all ever heard of the Tommy Westphall Universe Hypothesis? I'll let MovieBob explain because he does a much better job than I could. http://www.escapistmagazine.com/vide...-Within-Worlds As MovieBob said, I am now going to blow your mind. Here's the basics for those that didn't watch the video (shame on you if you didn't): The idea is to take TV continuity to it's extreme. Tommy Westphall is an autistic child character that imagined the show St Elsewhere (It's the ending to the show). St Elsewhere had crossovers with other shows making those shows part of Tommy's imagination as well. Then those other shows had crossovers, and then those other other shows had crossovers, and then those other other other shows had crossovers, etc, etc, etc. What does this have to do with Shredder trying to destroying the Ninja Turtles? Well, one of the shows mentioned as part of Westphall's mind in MovieBob's video is Alf. Alf appeared in Cartoon All Stars to the Rescue (yeah, it's a dumb drug PSA, but it still counts) along with a ton of cartoon characters including the 80's cartoon Michelangelo from Ninja Turtles. This Michelangelo is the one featured in Turtles Forever, firmly placing Turtles Forever in Westphall's mind. Now to get back to Power Rangers from here. The Ninja Turtles have their own multiverse including Next Mutation (an offshoot of the live-action movies) which had a crossover with Power Rangers in Space. So yeah, Power Rangers exists in Westphall's mind as well. Is your mind blown yet? Good, there's more. In Dino Thunder the Rangers incounter an English dub of Abaranger making all of Sentai fiction within Power Rangers. You know what that means! Super Sentai, Kamen Rider, Metal Hero, and basically everything else Shotaro Ishinomori ever created exists inside Tommy Westphall's brain. So what's all this mean? It means Shredder (Ch'rell, not Uncle Phil) was attempting to lobotomize the Ninja Turtles from Westphall's mind. Like all good lobotomies, it can have a chain reaction that would destroy all of Tommy Westphall's brain. So yeah, one could say that Shredder is trying to destroy all of Television in Turtles Forever. Though this is only one concept, what it is essentially explaining is the fact that anything, everything, and nothing has, is, and will happen, though not necessarily in this universe. Besides, who's to say that Tommy Westphall didn't just use some of those other shows as influences in his imaginary world? |

Here's my counter-argument:

Besides, who's to say that Tommy Westphall didn't just use some of those other shows as influences in his imaginary world? PS I don't take this seriously. It's basically a game, "5 degrees of Tommy Westphall." Just for fun. Last edited by Blade Raider; 10-19-2012 at 06:31 PM.. |

Because the child never watches TV. In the ending scene of St Elsewhere, Tommy's father says, and I quote, "I don't even know if he can hear me, because he sits there, all day long, in his own world, staring at that toy. What's he thinking about?" The toy is a snowglobe of the St Elsewhere hospital. The idea is to take things literally and taking that statement literally means that Tommy doesn't watch TV.

I really can't for the life of me understand the hate for that crossover. I thought it was fun as hell, and easily one of the coolest thing to ever happen when I was a kid.

No argument here. Plus, isn't that ending with the kid one of the most hated in TV history?
Honestly, if that sort of ending was done today, it would set off a stream of hated the likes of which may never be seen. |

I usually go by "Switch" as the abbreviation. And I'm perfectly willing to encourage others to enjoy things that I enjoy too. ![]() |
