I'm not surprised. I don't understand why they focused on their origins at all. "They da bad guys. Da good guys stopped them. Now they gotta be special team or die" is basically all the history the Suicide Squad needs. It's a dumb call, especially for a movie that is both a team up and a debut movie for these characters. They should've pulled a Guardians, and gave the viewer snippits of their backstory, but only parts relevant to the current story.

And the dark movie vs the more lighthearted promo material wasn't surprising. Fans speculated that the reshoots was to make it more lighthearted, but once DC straight up said "No, we're not doing that" then it was kind of obvious it was gonna be a needlessly grim movie.

Hilariously, I still want to see it. I hate the Margot Robbie Harley, but it feels like the only DC movie right now, live action or animated, that has any life in it.

Jahns gave it a good review, but I don't always agree with him. Hell, he loved Jason Bourne and I thought it was as dull and uninspiring as its title.

He never said a damn thing in his review about Croc, Katana or Enchantress, so that worries me that they are nothing more than wallpaper.

Well, if you believe some fans, Marvel has already hit that point since Civil War. Then again, other Marvel fans will say that every movie since Winter Soldier has been "So average it's lame"

As for DC's current affairs, well, Justice League Action is definitely a lighthearted show, and the Justice League trailer is on the right track (We just have to see if it'll follow Suicide Squad's lead and make a light trailer that is completely not indicative of the final product)

I think it's Geoff Johns. Don't get me wrong--he's a talented writer. But he's at his best when he's not trying to defend comics as a serious artistic medium by revamping old heroes so that they don't have the qualities that people make fun of them for, regardless of how intrinsic some of those qualities may be.

It's why Barry Allen's mom is dead.
