No, it's not Geoff Johns at all. Look at how the man brought back Hal Jordan, gave us the greatest Wally West Flash run ever, and then brought Barry back. The man knows these characters and knows how to write them. Yeah, so he killed off Barry's mom, big deal. Barry is my favorite Flash, always has been, but the silver age stuff had him so cookie cutter. It wasn't until things happened with him in the 70s where he really became a great person, so Johns was trying to add another dynamic to the character.
The issue is Didiot because he believes everything has to be dark and serious. He even made the comments that heroes should not be allowed to get married because they have sacrified their happiness to save others. Didiot was pretty much doing to DC over the last five years what Quesada was doing to Marvel ten years ago. I just hope the worst of DC is over with Rebirth (at least for the next 20 years until they screw it up again). |

I came back from seeing Suicide Squad and it was okay. Suicide Squad falls under the category of great premise, bad execution. I didn't really care for most of the characters. I like Will Smith in the movie, but the other characters barely felt there. This whole movie felt like it two different movies that was stitched together. I do admit that the action was good and I didn't find the movie boring to watch. The Joker's role was too short for me to make any sort of judgement but from what I saw he was alright. Maybe he will have a bigger role in the sequel or in the next Batman solo film.
The movie is a rental at best. If you want to see it on the big screen, go see it a discount price. I felt like Cyber City Oedo 808 did a similar premise of criminals working for the Government better and that was 26-25 years ago. I like it better than Batman v Superman, but not by much. Grade: C

got talked into going to "Suicide Squad"
I fucking hated this movie. There's so much wrong I don't even know where to start (spoilers below)... *DC, you really need to hire someone who actually knows how to direct action scenes. Half the fights are shot through some dark haze and there's no real focus on any major action bits. *Between the gratuitous slow-mo persistent in these fight scenes & the repeated close-up shots of Harley's ass, Zach Snyder's influence on production is PAINFULLY obvious. *I'm not sure if it was the makeup or the actor, but Killer Croc felt almost completely unintelligible. I had an easier time making out Tom Hardy's Bane speeches. *Deadshot's character arcs make absolutely no sense. His establishing profile is all about how much he loves his daughter (and could they have picked a WORSE child actor for that role?!) but later on he flat up admits he's basically a sociopath and has no regrets about what he does because he "cannot feel love." Also, there's a bit where he doesn't want to put his mask on because "bad things happen" when he does- are they trying to imply he doesn't want to be a killer after all?? (well, no- they're writing a reason to not cover up Will Smith with a mask after spending so much to get him in the damn thing. It's just a crappy reason). *There's too many characters on the Squad. Nobody really gets a chance to stand out; its all just introduction & exposition. One member, Slipknot, shows up just to get killed off ten minutes later to "prove how serious the government is." And what the hell was Katana even doing there?? There's a bit that should be important where she reveals that she actually can speak English despite all of her dialogue being subtitled, and then she NEVER speaks to anyone on the squad again for the rest of the fim!! *The "love story" background with Enchantress and Rick Flagg is painful enough, but nobody stops at any point to recognize that the situation they have to stop was only CREATED by someone wanting to form the Suicide Squad? None of this would've happened if this group of individuals had come together, yet only this group of individuals could stop it... *You could cut Joker out of the film and not lose a damn thing. His total screentime's about ten minutes, and all of it sucks. Leto is easily the worst version of the character in memory and no amount of screentime would his incredibly dickish behind-the-scenes behavior. *Captain Boomerang's a brony, for some reason. Also he gets caught by Flash- surprise cameo. And he looks awful, the suit is like an even crappier version of the new Power Rangers movie costumes & the effects used for him look worse than the TV show. BOTH TV shows... *That said, the effects overall are pretty terrible. The CG used for Enchantress and her minions are laughably bad. *Viola Davies is probably the only one in the cast with a decent performance, although I still hate the "beanpole" look for Amanda Waller. And her character's not immune to stupid moments either; she gets captured at one point & information is extracted from her brain that should be an important factor motivating the Squad to rescue her- but then it's never brought up and she just shows up alive & well after the big battle. *And then there's Harley. There is SO much wrong with Harley in this portrayal. It's not funny, it's not charming, and it certainly doesn't seem sexy to me. The new outfit looks like she fell into a Hot Topic bargain bin (and there's a five-second cameo of her "Iconic" look for apparently no reason). Her character's all over the map too; she has a couple moments where it looks like she's rallying the Squad together despite everything that happens to them but overall she begins and ends the movie at the exact same point- she wants to fuck the Joker. That's ultimately all she's given here. Definitely not recommended. |

I think DC fans are mad at Rotten Tomatoes because they want the DC movies to do well and want people to see them. Bad word of mouth can hurt movies a lot and a lot of people do use Rotten Tomatoes before checking out a movie. I seen many bad movies do poorly at the box office because of bad buzz on the web and outside the Internet. I think the movie will probably have a big drop off due to mix-bad word of mouth.
That's what happen with Batman v Superman, Hulk (2003), Elektra and several other movies. If it sucks or just okay, people will just rent it at the Red Box for $1.50. They end up saving money by doing that.

I'm staying at a friend for half a week, and he asked if I was interested. Part of me wants to critique it with my personal experience, though the other part wants nothing to do with Jared Leto after hearing about his performance

The third movie in the DC Cinematic Universe has been released. Is it the best movie in the universe? Can that even be considered an accomplishment? Or is this mission a failure? Watch to find out.

DC needs to realize that dark and gritty can only get them so far...personally, I'm getting sick of people thinking that every single comic book movie or reboot needs to be an edgy reimagining. |

Dark and gritty can actually get them tons of mileage.
The problem is that they want to do it with the big name properties, and not the characters that are actually dark and gritty, because they don't want to take the risk of selling something without Superman or Batman.

Batman and Superman have always had that perfect yin-yang relationship going on as Superman represents something Batman isn't, so I feel that something is lost when you take that dynamic away from those two. |
