Yup. DC wants the tone that characters like Swamp Thing or Constantine can carry, but they're only interested in making movies for the big names, and it's not meshing well.
Maybe DC will realize one of these days.

Blades 2 and 3 were from New Line. Elektra, X3, and DareDevil were from Fox. Hulk was Universal. Ghost Rider and Spider-Man 3 were Sony. DC's films have always been made by DC. Catwoman, Jonah Hex, Batman & Robin, Superman 3 and 4, Constatine, etc. I believe the only exception being Return of the Swamp Thing. Best way I can put Suicide Squad is that there is an excellent film in what was haphazardly edited together. Last edited by Dr Kain; 08-07-2016 at 01:43 AM.. |

No, it's not Geoff Johns at all. Look at how the man brought back Hal Jordan, gave us the greatest Wally West Flash run ever, and then brought Barry back. The man knows these characters and knows how to write them. Yeah, so he killed off Barry's mom, big deal. Barry is my favorite Flash, always has been, but the silver age stuff had him so cookie cutter. It wasn't until things happened with him in the 70s where he really became a great person, so Johns was trying to add another dynamic to the character.
The issue is Didiot because he believes everything has to be dark and serious. He even made the comments that heroes should not be allowed to get married because they have sacrified their happiness to save others. Didiot was pretty much doing to DC over the last five years what Quesada was doing to Marvel ten years ago. I just hope the worst of DC is over with Rebirth (at least for the next 20 years until they screw it up again). More often than not, the dude would get defeated by a paper bag or his own clumsiness than he would anything else. Sure, he's got historical significance, and the Parallax shift was kinda dumb, but he's FAR from the greatest Green Lantern of all time. Johns might've changed that, (in the mainstream DC continuity--Darwyn Cooke wrote the best Hal Jordan story of all time,) but it was only AFTER Kyle Rayner had time to take on the challenges of the mantle. Bringing back Barry was completely unnecessary (and something that Grant Morrison technically wrote). Johns wrote the stories that reintegrated him into the DC Universe, but Barry's story had an arc that was finished beautifully and Wally had been the Flash for longer. Bringing Barry back was a character regression that may have delivered two awesome runs with Francis Manapul and my favorite show on TV, but that doesn't change the hackneyed nature of his return. The Flash is a character that Geoff Johns himself said shouldn't be dark, but he was the guy who took a simple and elegant backstory and added an unnecessary amount of brooding grit to it. Geoff Johns is a writer who's stuck on the past--and sometimes it's for the better (Superman: Secret Origin). Lately, though, it's come at the cost of the future (The Flash: Rebirth, DC Universe: Rebirth). DiDiio has a hand in the company's direction, to be sure, as does Jim Lee, but Geoff Johns is the guy at the head of the charge. |

Thor 2, Iron Man 2, Iron Man 3 and The Incredible Hulk are okay movies in my opinion. While they are entertaining, they do suffer from having weak scripts. I think live action superhero comic book movies in general don't have that great of a track record. Most of them are pretty bad in my opinion.

To say the Rebirth stuff wasn't great would be a lie though, as Johns has given us the best GL material in decades. Sinestro forming his own corp, the different Lantern corps in general, and Blackest Night are all brilllaint and some of the best stuff to come out of DC after the 2000s. Quote:

Funny thing is, DC is doing exactly what Marvel did back in those days: they're licensing out their properties to too many people instead of keeping it all in house.

Aren't all the movies done by WB and Zach Snyder?

Yeah but we also have the TV shows by CW and NBC.
Just the fact that they didn't use the CW TV Universe as the basis for their movie universe is baffling to me... |

A friend of mine is a huuuuge comic nerd and he said DC believes the audience is too stupid to know the difference between the universes, case and point Suicide Squad in Arrowverse being built up, but then no payoff because 'the audience couldn't POSSIBLY tell the two apart' after movie plans were being done
