I hate how Digimon Adventure Tri is only going to be on a Thursday night in theaters. I have a class from 6:00 - 11:00 PM and it looks like I have to wait for it on Blu-Ray. I hope it does well enough for us to get the other films in the US.

I still remember seeing the Digimon Movie in theaters back in 2000. It was a fun experience and I saw it twice just to get the other cards.

So we have some news on the non-Fathom Digimon Adventure tri. screenings.
![]() Thanks to Eleven Arts website we have the details. It appears it's being individually distributed to theaters. In the USA this will (at the moment) include 17 theaters between September 29th through October 6th, showing the film as they wish to (some are just showing it once, some multiple times, etc.) In Canada there are a handful of listings for showings on September 16th through the 19th (it being late on the 16th right now.) Extremely limited, so if you want to see it and you have one near you, these limited screenings may be your last chance to see it in theaters (especially may be important if you missed the Fathom event for some reason or another.) Check the Eleven Arts link above for the listings of theaters, as it's likely they will add more. Thanks to AmEv for the heads up.

It looks like it's no longer playing in my local area. I hope we get the other movies to be release in theaters soon. How was the dub for Tri for the people who saw it? How faithful was it to the Japanese version?

So you know how I said Xros Wars* exceeded my expectations? I finished it a while ago. I honestly do think it was pretty good, and one of the better Digimon shows. Second season not as much as the first necessarily but it certainly had its strong points.
Hunters, though...21 episodes into that one and...pretty much the opposite of all that stuff I just said. My expectations were already so low for this one. I'd kept hearing about how it wasn't good. How can it still manage be so very, very ungood? There were several things I really liked about Xros Wars. A focused plot with many multi-part stories, and a large cast of supporting characters with which to play around with. High stakes, and a competent protagonist. Also, Blastmon was there. Hunters...pointless stories of the week, every old character confined to being trapped in the Xros Loader due to new and arbitrary rules, or kept as minor cameos. Cheapening of the super evolution mechanic. Essentially no stakes involved in anything. Barely even the smallest hinting towards having anything like a plot in mind. I really don't have anything against Tagiru and Gumdramon specifically but they are very emblematic of the painfully generic shounen mini conflict of the week route the show has taken, and it's just...it's just not good. And I thought Xros Wars was too focused on the main character and mon, Hunters makes it look like Tamers in comparison. So much Tagiru and Gumdramon. It also really cheapens all the Digimon they catch as characters (which most of them aren't in the first place but whatever). With Xros Wars one of the good parts was they went around gathering friends and then they just stuck around. The C-listers weren't brought out all the time, and not even the main ones were relevant in every story, but for the most part just having them around as part of the team was enough. With the stupid "only one mon at a time" rule, it just...ugh. They're just whatever. Stupid monsters to beat and catch and then maybe take out for two seconds if they're lucky when Gumdramon is busy or something. It's just a lot of...egh. It's almost like some Pokemon shit is what it is. Also, I thought one of the redeeming parts of the show would be having Damemon as a main character, because I like him. lmfao tho. Damemon, and surprisingly, Shoutmon, really just feel like they're there out of contractual obligation. This is really a show with at most 4 or 5 characters the show actually cares about, and sadly the only one that actually is a Digimon is Gumdramon. It's all a lot of nonsense. It...kinda feels like I'm watching a Precure show sometimes. The structure and nature of the conflicts aren't too dissimilar. Difference being I actually enjoy Precure, and outside of a few shows they're not nearly as mc-centered. Or as shallow, overall. Apparently the "plot" really starts next episode, with the crossover hinted at half a season ago or whatever it was. That should be...probably, no less nonsensical. I just...really don't understand how this show even came to be. How did they even go from Xros Wars to this. It boggles the mind. I will say though, it does have like, 2...2 and a half things that are good, maybe better than Xros Wars. A better, or at least more consistent, less weird animation and art style than XW. XW got a little...grody sometimes. Like the weird episodes of Savers. It especially tended to have Nene drawn in a rather peculiar way. And not a good one. The other one would be that Arresterdramon, and...ok, really only Arresterdramon, are at least better than "make it bigger, and gold!" as far as super evolution designs go. The evolutions of the rival Hunters are...less great? I kinda get Astamon, though I'm not a big fan of it. Dragomon's or whatever its name is, the name of which I also don't remember is...honestly, I don't care him or his trainer at all. Cho-Hakkaimon is...well. It's Cho-Hakkaimon. And the ost is decent. But that's about it. At least I only have the four episodes left... *treating it and Toki wo Kakeru Shounen Hunter-tachi as different series because, they are Last edited by barnstenchfartface; 09-23-2016 at 04:57 AM.. |
