Who said this movie was going to be rated PG-13 anyway?

ComicBookMovie.com, citing Power Rangers Now. Quote:

The Power Rangers film has been rated PG-13. The rating was confirmed during the recent CES expo in Las Vegas [via Power Rangers Now].

		 Here's PRN's quote: Quote:

The rating was confirmed during Qualcomm’s presentation at the Consumer Electronics Show, where a trailer for the Power Rangers Virtual Reality Experience debuted.

Cranston has high hopes for after having seen much of it. Cranston told the TCA he believes “this movie is actually gonna be a big deal. I’ve seen a lot of it, because I’m doing ADR on it. And it’s impressive. Dean Israelite really has a nice touch. As big and as powerful as Power Rangers could be, he has a nice touch to keep it grounded, and real. I think it’s gonna turn some heads, I really do.” This isn’t the first time Cranston effused over the project: back in July, he said Israelite’s reboot was on par with Christopher Nolan’s reimagining of Batman. More and more PG-13 films have blood and gore these days. It's a different world from when all of that started. G, it was the tamest of them all, still is. PG, it was pushing boundaries even after the invention of PG-13 in 1984. (Example: Beetlejuice saying "Fuckin' " and of course, Tom Hanks's BIG.) PG-13 was edgier, but was no R. R was edgy and pushed boundaries and helped usher in NC-17, which wasn't always about sexual content. The Evil Dead would've been NC-17 if it had been released during that time. The unrated director's cut of Robocop would've been NC-17. (Murphy's execution is incredibly brutal compared to the R cut.) PG pushes no boundaries, but it does force the filmmakers to produce quality material to get people to the theater to pay for a PG film these days. (Disney's and Kenneth Brannagh's live action remake of Cinderella comes to mind. Heck, even Disney's Enchanted proved the concept of quality PG entertainment a decade ago.) PG-13 has become the R of yesteryear, starting in the mid to late 90s. You can have three uses of "Fuck" before it becomes an R, regardless of the other content in the film. You can have a steady stream of violence, especially sci-fi and bloody. Heck, one of the Predator films was PG-13 and pulled off a chestburster if I remember correctly. R is now reserved for ribald entertainment such as Deadpool and artsy films that have a penchant for being unflinching in their honesty and dark materials. It's kind of watered down over the years. (Heck, I've seen worse TV-14/TV-MA material that makes R look a bit timid these days.) NC-17 is now reserved for ultra violence (and I do mean ultra) as well as nearly XXX rated sexual content. (Nymphomaniac Volumes I and II, for example.) I'm not the least bit surprised PR is getting a PG-13 rating, it's pretty much the sweet spot for movies these days.
