First Iron Fist and now Inhumans.... Oh well, at least I got X-Men Blue to look forward to every two weeks.

so I watched Spider-Man: Homecoming yesterday. Loved it and Holland is definitely a great choice so far for Spidey. It had great comedic moments and was a delight to watch.
However, I had two problems: 1. Eugene "Flash" Thompson. I'm not really familiar with Flash pre-Venom but was he always this annoying? I know the whole point of him being a bully is that he's annoying and suppose to be hated but Homecoming's Flash is really, really annoying and his nickname for Peter is childishly cringy. Felt like you could've gotten rid of him and the film wouldnt be any different. 2. Michelle/MJ. She was more likeable than Flash but her rebellious/outsider hipster-like personality was just cringy and her scenes which looked to be designed to be humorous for the current generation where just as cringy. But overall, ignoring those two, I generally enjoyed the film and would definitely recommend it.

My video review:
My favorite moments: The video documentary at the beginning When Spidey webs the dude to his own car and the conversation that proceeds Peter speaking Italian back to the store owner When he is trapped in the warehouse and after the montage only 37 minutes have gone by The Kill Mode bit The epic failure of an interrogation scene The "OH SHIT!" moment you get when Vulture turns out to be Liz's dad Peter sneaking into his room only to have Ned there Ned's "I was... uh... looking at porn." The bathroom scene with Happy and Peter Aunt May's "WHAT THE F..." Cap's post credit speech Also, Scorpion, Tinkerer, Shocker, and Prowler? HOLY ****!!!! I wonder who else was around I didn't catch. Although, not sure I'm a fan of Gargan being a criminal right from the get go instead of being an invenstigator first. KRWolf: Flash - Yes, this was the whole reason Flash was written to be Spider-Man's top fan in the comics. It was made to go against the fact that he would bully Peter every day from breaking his glasses to forcing him into a boxing match, etc. It wasn't until college and then his service in Vietnam when he really chilled down. I thought Michelle was just fine. She was just as realistic as the rest of the cast and her lines were great. Not sure how you can consider her even remotely a hipster. My only nitpick is the sixth movie in a row where the villain learns Peter is Spidey, but at least Vulture learned it through intelligence instead of Peter just ripping off his mask saying, "Hey look, I'm Spider-Man." Not sure how you can consider her even remotely a hipster.[/spoiler] Michelle - Well her awkward outsider/almost rebellious personality put me off. Especially when it looked like it was designed for comedic effect (e.g. the detention scene and when she flips the finger at either Peter or Liz at the prom). It was on the point of cringy. Also I said hipster-like not a hipster, she has qualities that almost make her hipster like but she isn't one. Also, "her lines were great", i dont think anyone going out of the theater is going to say "Man, remember that moment when Michelle said *insert Michelle line*?! That was so great!". More likely to talk about other great scenes and lines in the film, specifically any of Peter's moments. Aside from Homecoming, here's some Marvel Legacy news if anyone is gonna bother with it: * Deadpool will apparently return to his villainous roots. Because after having a successful film where he's portrayed as a likeable and hilarious anti-hero, the obvious step is to make him a villain once again. Logic * Bendis will still be writing Invincible Iron Man which will investigate the disappearance and eventual return of Tony Stark. * Amadeus Cho's "Totally Awesome" Hulk will headline the Incredible Hulk series and head to Sakaar from the Planet of the Hulk. * Deadpool will be in the Defenders apparently alongside Luck Cage, Iron Fist, Daredevil, and Jessica Jones. Or just appear in it for an issue... * X-Men Blue and Gold will have a four part crossover that features the return of Mojo. * Falcon will have The Patriot as his partner in his solo series. Thoughts: * Dont care much for Deadpool as I use to. I might pick it up but the over-saturation of multiple Deadpool comics got to me. He's my favourite but did he really need so many mini-series just because the film was successful. * Can we get someone else to replace Bendis? When I picked up Invincible Iron Man as part of All-New All-Different Marvel, it was definitely my favourite series from that run. Until after the first story arc finished, and it was just a lead-up to Civil War II and had the horrendous art style change. Didnt bother with International Iron Man and dropped Invincible and Infamous Iron Man after 2/3 issues as they were just boring. * Dont care for Cho or Hulk, so miss. But having Cho headline "Incredible Hulk" seems to go against the whole Legacy idea Marvel wants. Right? * Deadpool in Defenders. See my first thought but remove "might pick it up" * I'll most likely pick up the Blue and Gold crossover as I've been enjoying Blue so far. * Dont really care that much about Falcon. So far, the only Legacy they have is the updated number (e.g. Incredible Hulk is around the #700) except for Falcon, Defenders, X-Men, and also America (which i didnt list cos I'm surprised they havent cancelled it yet). Will most likely not bother with Legacy as its obviously Marvel Rebirth but there's a tiny itty bitty little part of me that hopes Marvel gets their shit together and just drop the SJW and "we need diversity in everything and it has to be the only important factor to every series we sell". But so far, not a good impression. |

Flash - I do slighlty know about that but i think the change from steretypical jock bully to intellectual smug rich bully is what made him more annoying than the source material, and if that's what they intended, good job, cos I hate Homecoming Flash. Plus for someone who's suppose to be smart, you'd think he'd come up with a more insulting nickname that was incredibly childish and cringy.

According to Marvel themselves Legacy's less about fixing their shit and more about proving that their "hip and trendy" new characters can co-exist with the ones people actually care about *and trying to sucker people into buying their shit by preying off nostalgia instead of kissing Twitter's butt* and this pretty much confirms that Legacy's less going back to basics and more Marvel trying to have it's cake and eat it too.
So less Marvel Rebirth and more Marvel New 52 if you ask me.

As for your Marvel Legacy stuff, I've given up on current day comics. I've got so much stuff from the 60s-80s to read that the modern stuff just doesn't interest me. It doesn't mean I won't read a trade here or there, but the vast majority of my interests lie in the Silver and Bronze Ages. Last edited by Dr Kain; 07-07-2017 at 05:30 PM.. |

Let's see how bad it is and maybe Disney will step in and enforce stricter rules. Marvel's unwell as hell and needs to be forced to stop this or they'll be in the same mess forever. |
