I never watched past the first couple of episodes, did Zyuohger turn into something other than a massive waste of a good idea? Or have people just lowered their expectations from Toei shows?

Zyuohger is looked upon fairly fondly due to a fun and likable cast.
It's rather telling that, despite a lackluster story, upon finishing Zyuoh, most people just wanted more Zyuohger.
