Yep, they did join in the later part of the battle if I recall.

They're also just very popular seasons in general; with Zyuranger in particular being huge for being the first Sentai to really be based in fantasy genres and settings as well as first using dinosaurs.

It feels like a large part of it being Magiranger is that it's just a different kind of robo.

This is a personal observation of mine but the way I see it, it has to do with dichotomy. The ZyuranGaon combo is a dichotomy of prehistoric and modern, in this case a T-Rex and a lion, while MagiVroon is a dichotomy of magic and tech. They are polar opposites of each other but meld together to form something greater. And that somehow rhymed.
