[Blade Raider]

I've been on a customizing kick lately so I'm setting up a thread just for my customs. This thread will be any customs I do going forward. I mostly do candy toys that are toku related anyways, but other things will pop up now and again. Today's post will be a huge catch up post of everything I've done recently in the order I did them.

1) YU-DO Super Patren 1:

Finished up making a custom Super Patren 1. I've kept an extra Patren 1 for years because I figured one day I'd get a Super Lupin X and make this. This figure has a total of 1 sticker, the badge on the helmet. Head, arms, and legs are from Patren 1 and torso is Super Lupin X.


Outside painting the Lupin X parts into Patren 1 colors, I also had to paint all the black, orange, and a bulk of the gold. Even did a quick bit of silver to make those parts a bit more shiny.

While I was at it, I did some touch ups on my normal Patren 1. Mainly added a flat coat over all the red I had painted because it was really glossy.


Doesn't show up on camera super well, so I took a close up of a Gangler's hand I painted with the same paint right next to Patren 1's shoulder that I've added the flat coat to.

2) SO-DO Blade Raider Version 3 upgrade:

I believe I showed off the v2 in detail on page 19, but I've been using the figure for a long time.

There was a v2.5 where all I did was add a flat coat to everything. I felt that wasn't enough to be a full version. What makes this the v3 is the new torso has a waist joint.



The new torso is from a Dai SO-DO Brave. There are some minor paint differences this time. I left the armpit area black for a bit of that under suit feel. I also added a blue stripe to the back. Last picture shows what got replaced.

3) SO-DO Kamen Rider Brave half Dai upgrade:

I had most of a Dai SO-DO leftover from the Blade upgrade, so I put all the remaining parts on a normal SO-DO Brave torso. Adds wrists joints, painted thigh backs/ swords/silver. I added the white, yellow, some silver, and fully painted the hands, anything that was still missing. The older Brave I kept on display now gets to wear Taddle Fantasy full time.

4) SO-DO Kamen Rider Aki/Thief proper post and repairs:


This is another hero custom I've used in my comic And Then They Fight/TAOWAR that can be found here:

Aki/Thief is a recent one, I believe her first appearance is on page 20.

I've never properly posted this figure anywhere, so now seems like a good time. Aki/Thief are both names for the character and I've yet to properly name the Rider in the comic. Due to story reasons, Blade's powers are base on her powers, so I wanted a similar aesthetic. Hence the overall Ex-Aid look with Zi-O style arms.



One minor update that I've done since her first appearance is give her sword a better handle from Bravo. When not transformed, Thief has to still be able to hold the sword and that helps greatly.



Thief has an ability that creates problems with SO-DO. She can clap her hands and Release weapons from her Armory. Problem is that most of her weapons are not SO-DO compatible. So I modded some old Microman hands. The first pair are hands for clapping. Not the best, but add the sound effect and good enough. The others are gripping hands with her most used hook sword weapons. Also a minor during the repairs was giving her a tilted hand from Valkyrie.

As for the repairs, the original figure had tolerance issues that by the time I was ready to use the figure, the shoulder and hip joints were a floppy mess while other joints were to tight. I replaced the problem areas and this is working much better.

5) YU-DO Lupin Tux

Meet Lupin Tux! The mysterious phantom thief nobody is talking about because he does nothing.




After making Super Patren 1, these were the parts I had leftover. I figured since the helm is a top hat, I'd aim for black and make a tuxedo. This ended up being loosely based on Tuxedo Mask.




I don't have a red cape at the moment, but I have 2 black cape options, a shorter cape that I think matches and looks better and a Kenner Batman cape when I just need it to be longer. His VS Changer is an all black version Ugo's with GoodStriker attached, who would probably be his mecha anyways.

6) SO-DO Kamen Rider Grenadier/Destro


And finally for today's post: Kamen Rider Grenadier/Destro. I keep flipping on the name, one's cool and one's simple. Either way, this is Destro from GI Joe with Kamen Rider powers.

I've had this on the back burner for nearly a year and getting the rapier with Lord of Wise was the last push I needed. The red was was also my test for the new Gundam paints I recently got. It went mostly okay and I like the resulting shade of red.



Of course, I based this off of the Iron Grenadier Destro design (who I just painted the eyes of while doing this). I made the gloves silver based on Destro's original design most just for a bit more color. I figure the exhausts on the gloves give him a thruster punch.

But what about Trashbag Destro?!

1) Kamen Rider G1-R:

Kamen Rider G1-R, the R can stand for Rising or Rebuilt. The idea is that the original G1 (that looks mostly like G3, but in Kuuga colors) got heavily damaged and the only parts available to rebuild it was the remains of G4.



The figure itself is a Shodo-O G4 in Kuuga colors. Took some liberties with the color scheme to conform to the mold. I didn't think I'd like having this much gold, but it really won me over the more I painted. For fun, I made the battery pack blue since the other G series Riders use red.




UPDATE:
Since the original post, I have repainted the eyes with a metallic red Gundam Marker so they pop.

2) SO-DO Kamen Rider T/T Rider:

Second of my new Riders is finished (First being G1-R)! I'm currently calling him Kamen Rider T or T Rider for short (like X Rider and Super Rider). T for Turtle, of course.


(Side note, I've wanted to have Ultra Donatello Cast Off like this for years)

Lore for T Rider is a bit stranger than G1-R. In my comic universe TMNT exists alongside everything else I want. At some point Donatello jointed a group of Kamen Riders. I think Donnie is the kind of character that would make his own Rider suit after being around them for a while.


The figure is a SO-DO Kamen Rider Buster from Saber. Buster is a wide build Rider with a major turtle motif, so this becoming a Ninja Turtle works amazingly. As for why Donnie, he's my fav and the spear (From Arms Action Kurokage) being able to equip to the back was just to good.


And just for fun, I got out all my old 4"-ish TMNT customs from years and years ago (They are really dusty).

2.5) SO-DO Kamen Rider T/T Rider UPDATE:
(Original post: Dec 2021)
Updated T-Rider. Changed the black to a green. Changed the mouth to have teeth. As soon as I finished it earlier in the year I had been considering these changes, but didn't get to it until I decided to make a bigger change, the new Turtle Driver.



The Turtle Driver is a repaint of the Den-O Belt (have extras now). Had to shave down the peg as it's one of those SO-DO drivers with a thick peg. Colored the buttons to be the bandana colors. Idea here is that any of them can use it and the colors change to match the user. The power source is one of the Muta Stones, probably in the Turtle Driver.


The black contrasted better, but the green is more turtle-y. I put this off because I didn't want to deal with repainting of the joints as they were already black. Surprisingly didn't give me much trouble.

3) Renewal of SO-DO Kamen Rider Waltz:
(Original post: Feb 2021)


NOTE: I may refer to him as Black Waltz in this post, but have since reverted back to just Waltz. I don't think I give a reason for the name here, since the name Mage was already taken, I named him after the Black Waltzs from Final Fantasy IX.


This is a reworking of an older custom.

Parts:

The old custom:

Here's new vs old. The reason for the update is because Para-DX's Perfect Puzzle armor is awful. Try to move the arms and the shoulder pads fall off. Wasn't happy with the colors either. Ironically the WizardArmor is also awful for stuff falling off, but I removed that part. I lost the cloth robe, but I think this one works pretty well (Update note: This cape went to Kamen Rider Aki/Thief). Also gave him a NES colored Gamer Driver. I switched to gold from silver because the Black Wizard class used some gold.

Like the original, took some inspiration from Vivi's pants, the black mage from Final Fantasy IX.


And finally T Rider, G1-R, and Black Waltz together. Really happy with how these three turned out.

4) SO-DO Kamen Rider Al

I worked on this one for a while, Kamen Rider Al!



Parts:
Espada Golden Alangina: Head, neck, back, hip, driver, left side, left shoulder pad, feet, sword
Saber Dragon Bremen: Right side and shoulder, chest
Ryugen Yomi: Arms
Gaim Kiwami: Hands
Ninja Player: Legs
Ex-Aid: Right shoulder pad





Based on Aladdin's street urchin look with elements of the Genie added in. The Wonder Ride Books are now based on the VHS tapes of the 3 Aladdin movies (UPDATE: The Driver is called the Home Video Driver). I would've liked a scimitar for the sword, but didn't have a good option.





The cape comes off to become the magic carpet. The old Mattel magic carpet toy scales quite well here, I just wish my old toy was in better condition for this.



"Genie, I wish to have Phenomenal Cosmic Power!"



A surprise form change using Espada's Hedgehog chest piece. Gives him a spiky Genie face on his chest.




All the painted hands and accessories, plus what it looks like with the torso apart.




Finally some group shots. First is with G1-R, T-Rider, and Black Waltz which are other recent OC Riders of mine. Second is with an old custom of Kamen Rider Zade, who's based on Jasmine and made out of Arms Action parts.

5) Renewal of Arms Action Kamen Rider Zade:

NOTE: Don't think I've posted this on any forum, so it's probably new for here.



Alongside updating others (NOTE: Probably referring to T Rider), I updated Armored Rider Zade (last pic) into Kamen Rider Zade. Originally a Gaim style Rider that's loosely a Blueberry Arms, but it was really a Princess Jasmine themed Rider. I added a twist tie ponytail and refreshed the paint job. Goes great with Al.

6) SO-DO Blade Raider's Unnamed Rider Machine:

NOTE: Don't think I've posted this on any forum, so it's probably new for here.


Another one that hasn't made it into my comic yet: Blade Raider's Rider Machine...that I haven't named yet. It's a simple repaint of the Gatriker. One feature I haven't taken finished pics of is the bikes ability to strap Blade's wheelchair from his civilian form to the back (Shown in the last picture because I painted it).

7) YU-DO Gokai Red Zenkai Mode + Twokaiser:

As soon as I got YU-DO Zenkaiger 2, I took an extra Twokaiser to make a Gokai Red because why would they make new candy toys of the Gokaigers...hindsight's 20/20, y'all (couldn't be happier those are getting made by the way). I was going to do new shoulder pads (Zenkai Red's look great on this) and weapons, but once it was clear Shodo was happening, I decided to just wrap it up. Might revisit this one day and make a different color out of it.






And I also painted up a Twokaiser. Everything except the helmet and shoulder armor is painted. I might go back and paint the hands to match my red, but this is more or less finished.

8) GI Joe RAM Chaser 3000


It's a modded RAM Cycle from GI Joe to be use as G1-R's Rider Machine. Since G1-R is based on Kuuga Mighty's colors, RAM Chaser 3000's colors are based on a mix of Try Chaser 1000 and Beat Chaser 2000.

Other side and without the minigun sidecar attached. Sadly in these pictures I can see some green where there shouldn't be and super hard to get to. I might try to get some of it later, but this does remind me why I don't paint vehicles often.



With G1-R riding. Compliments him well.



Since someone mentioned Iron Grenadiers, let's put Kamen Rider Grenadier on it to. Looks good.

1) SO-DO Kamen Rider Super Shredder:

Next in my line of Kamen Rider Ninja Turtles is Super Shredder. I mean, just look at Calibur Jaou Dragon and tell me that's not Shredder. Just silver it up and you're good to go.




Majority of the figure is Calibur Jaou Dragon, of course. The cloth cape is from a Revenge of the Sith Darth Vader. The sword and scabbard are from a GI Joe Hard Master.





Some more pictures. Note that the ones on the Underpass backdrop were taken before I added to last layer of silver.

2) SO-DO Kamen Rider Z:


Pronounced "zed" of course. The emperor of evil Lord Zedd has become a Kamen Rider! His driver appears to be empty, but that's by design. He hopes to one day place a Power Morpher in there for even more power.


Parts:
Head- Blades Lion Fantasista
Shoulder pads- Genm Dangerous Zombie
Driver- An empty Decadriver
Rest of body- Espada Arabiana Night


Close up of the chest to better show off that he does in fact have a Z on his chest. I used a slightly darker steel over the silver for this.


The Z Staff is made of the Z from the 2010 Lord Zedd, a model tree for the shaft, and a SO-DO handle filler to connect them. the 2010 Z Staff was way to thick for the SO-DO to hold and my attempts to make it thinner didn't work.

Speaking of 2010 Zedd, he can hold the new staff. If you think I ruined a rare toy for this, don't. It already lost a leg years ago. I've glued it back on, but the damage was done.


And while I was painting the Kamen Rider, I grabbed a cheap very worn out 5POA Zedd off eBay and painted it to. (This is the bonus little custom)



All my Zedds at the moment. I went for the darker colors of the suit and LC Zedd for this Kamen Rider custom. There's a tad more purple or pink in that paint than I thought, but I like the end result.

3) SO-DO Kamen Rider Tripredacus Agent:


The former Decepticon, now Predacon, Ravage has become a Kamen Rider!


Parts:
Body - Revi Lion
Hips - Vice.
Tail - Vice (modded to fit the belt hole)
Hands - Gaim Kachidoki

I was surprised how good Ravage's colors conformed to this body. I thought about adding some TM2 elements like the silver and gold arm spikes, but as is it's to sleek of a look to do that. Revi's hip parts were giving me problems with rubbing, so I ended up swapping them for a pair of Vice hips.



Weapons are a pair of DJ Guns from Gaim. Why? Because I had like 3-4 extras and they fit what I needed for Ravage's guns. This is why he uses Gaim hands, to accommodate the angled handles. Helps that I didn't have to paint the hands this way.

"Nemesis Rise! Peace through tyranny!"


You might've noticed he's wearing an Ark Driver. Here I'm repurposing it as the Nemesis Driver. You know, because Ark and Nemesis. The driver creates a Rider body and Ravage himself turns into a Progrise Key that goes inside the Driver (using the World's Smallest Ravage here). Being similar to the Ark Driver, the Nemesis Driver is programed with Megatron's malice, hence the Megatron quote.



Some close up of the head and torso. I kept Revi's eye stickers, even painted over the yellow bits. I left the Ark Driver unchanged because I don't have an extra.


Group of most of my Ravages. Mostly took the colors from the Kingdom one with a bit from the X-9 figure.

1) YU-DO Hakaiser:

Machine Power, Hakaiser!


A couple of weeks ago, I found YU-DO Hakaiser being sold without the minipla and couldn't pass it up. When I got it, it had so many stickers that I opted to paint it myself. This was so much work.


The only paint out of the box was the front of the head (which is nicely done) and the silver on the front of the chest. That's it, everything else had to be painted.


Only stickers I still used on the body are the 2 emblems and orange line between them. I even painted stuff that had no stickers like the arm guns, the entire neck area, etc. The gray I used might be a little off, but it's what I had to work with.


I did use the stickers for the boomerang because it was somewhat hollowed out on one side and the stickers covered that. I'm still working on the Zenkai Cannon, so no closer look at it yet.

Now for the new stuff!


2-4) YU-DO Zenkaiser, Zenkaiser Black, and Zenkai Red:
After doing so much on Hakaiser, I decided to put a little work into Zenkaiser, and then Zenkaiser Black, and then Zenkai Red, and then a lot of work into Saber Super Hero Senki.


Let's start with these three. My goal was to paint what wasn't stickered staring with the popped cape collars. Then I moved onto the back of the legs. Then I noticed Zenkaiser's belt stickers and Zenkai Red's belt stickers were chipping, so I painted those to.

Here's a clearer view of the popped cape collars.


Then I went wild and painted the lines all the way up the neck of these two. Zenkai Red does not have these lines on the suit.


I wish I could finish the rainbow/monochrome stripes on these to, but I don't have all the right paints for that.


One other thing I did on all 3 of these is paint the soles of the feet. Note that this is an older image before I painted the red on the inside of the hip.

5) Zenkai Cannon and Geartlinger:
Zenkai Cannon time. The stickers for this thing are garbage. If you buy Haikaiser, cut the cannon stickers into smaller ones, they don't fit. I ripped nearly ever sticker on this. Anyways, I cut off and painted the sticker that cover the arm/wings. Painted the underside, etc.




Here's an earlier picture before I painted Zenkaiser summoning some Roaring Jurassic Power!


I also did a little work on Zenkaiser Black's Geartlinger before putting the stickers on. Adding black where the stickers cover, bit of gold to the beak, and silver to the front. Even picked out the gun barrels with a dots of black.

6) SO-DO Kamen Rider Saber Super Hero Senki:

Finally moving onto Kamen Rider Saber Super Hero Senki. At this point I was just having way to much fun with this red paint that I'm using.


I tried out a gold on his back. Not the best match, but not bad either. Not enough to replace the gold stickers with this gold. Anyways, I painted the skirt, most of the legs, hips, hands, shoulders, elbows, back of the belt, neck, back of the head, so much red.


I love how the red on the inside of the skirt turned out. This is best red I've ever painted with.

Let's Traffic Jam!


Meet Bullraffic, a traffic light Transformer.


Bullraffic is made from a Smashdown Battle Master. The lights are made from Mega Construx (I think these were from a Pokemon set). The pole and base are also Mega Construx.




In robot, Bullraffic has a bull head, hence the name. If I had a normal robot head to work with, this would've probably been Signal Lancer instead. I had more red and green at first, but it was beginning to look to Christmas-y.


Couple of more pics of robot. The red tabs and slots are needed for transformation, so they had to stay red. Same on the red balljoint for the neck.



Bullraffic can still use the hammer mode even after modding the handle to fit in the 5mm peg holes. I went with this order of lights so that in hammer mode, they could hit weak, then the light turns green and hits way harder.



Alternately, Bullraffic can be used as a staff with the whole pole or a club.
