Wasabi peas are great too, especially when mixed in with rice crackers.

And yeah, I'm sure we'll come across an ice cream form or weapon at some point. I googled it and it's described as caramel candy but with chocolate and nuts inside? Nice.

I got the fusion rider ideas still?.
All that?s left are Blade, Hibiki, Fourze, Ghost & Ex-Aid. Depends on what the next Reiwa Riders will be like. And which Showa riders are best suited for those fusions too. Here are possibilities:
Will it be V3, X, Stronger, Skyrider, Super-1, ZX or Black (RX) that would fit with Blade or Fourze? Last edited by henshinzero; 10-13-2024 at 01:07 PM.. |

Well, I watched Saban Masked Rider and I’m ready to share my very important opinion that no one needs. I think it's worth mentioning that I have no childhood memories of this show. At the same time, I tried to give it a chance and carefully pushed away the thought that this was a complete cringe and the worst thing that bears the name rider. In principle, I cannot deny this, although I have not yet seen Kamen Norider and Thailand's Hanuman and the 5 Riders. This is a bad show, very bad. But at the same time, it is far from the unwatchable disaster that people like to make it out to be.
For example, SMR is much closer to its original than the Dragon Knight. Which doesn't change the fact that the latter is the best show. Much better. But I have read statements that the SMR has nothing to do with riders at all, which is clearly an exaggeration. I guess I'll start with a general look at the show, what it was trying to be and why it didn't work out. First and foremost, SMR wanted to be Saban's superhero show. But for this he devoted too little time to action and fantasy, and too much time to comedy (more on that later). You can write as much as you like that Bulk and Skull are the main stars of the Power Rangers, but, with some exceptions, they received three two-minute scenes per episode, while at least two scenes always include the rangers. And the rest of the time is devoted to the rangers themselves, Zordon and Alpha-5, the villains and the plot of the episode. In Beetleborgs, yes, both the characters and the plot were often overshadowed by the monsters from Flaber's mansion, but there was a single cast, which, in addition to the comedy, was also a fantastic and, with a stretch, an action element. And in SMR, Dex himself, Ferbus, the Stewarts, Patsy and Herbie, as well as the director, who is clearly more than necessary, are responsible for the comedy. And if you combine their interactions, there is barely enough time for a cut-off fight with a monster, much less any kind of plot. But at the same time, the show also failed as a sitcom. For, forgive me fans of this genre, but its heroes are either stupid, or vile, or stupid and vile. There are exceptions, but to write a comedy without making anyone look like an idiot or a scoundrel, you need to have extraordinary talent. So, as a result, the SMR is too toothless for an evil comedy and too mediocre for a good one. Another example for the show was clearly mid-century superhero series. This is even noticeable at the beginning, where the name and panorama of space is decorated in a retro style. But the problem here is that those shows did not rely on either the action or comedy, which were the basis for Saban's production of those years. The 20 minutes of an episode, for example, of “The Adventures of Superman” of ’52 were completely spent on story, which SMR could not afford. And as a result, it didn’t make the same impression on viewers and therefore became outdated much faster. Of course, I want to praise the action, but is it really worth the credit for a completely different show and a different company? Local special effects, although good for TV in 1995, did not stand the test of time. Also, the action without a suit was shot in such a way that Tetsuo Kurata should have been listed as another performer in the role of Dex. I should also mention that the use of film footage is horribly done. It could be stated that the ZO and J armor is an energy-saving, low-power form used in extreme cases. Anything would be better than a costume changing in adjacent frames! But these are minor things compared to the plot. SMR is resistant to any connection between episodes and, in fact, the only influence within the show: new forms. Despite the fact that there is potential in the stories of the week, for example, in the episode about the bully who made friends with Dex and Herbie (to be honest, I thought that he and the same Herbie would take over the functions of Kasumi no Joe, but these are dreams) or in the where mom and Maribaron switched characters. There is no need to continue the plot, but simply take into account the events occurring in the episode in the future. I could praise the move away from MoTW, as at times there are multiple monsters in an episode. But this means refusing to come up with your own plot or even copy someone else’s, and therefore this approach is rather a minus. Also the ending. Saban knew from the very beginning that the show would not be able to continue. Was it really impossible to prepare a high-quality ending? Or at least some. The way the show ended in the end is simply a slap in the face not even of the fans, but in general of all viewers of the show. Although the haters got a reason for memes with the riders' names mixed up, so at least someone was happy. Let's move on to the characters. Dex is a typical sitcom alien who doesn't know basic things about human life. Well, except for what I saw on TV. But when you need to make fun of a monster or Patsy and Herbie, he’s quite on point. And this is not development, because there is no connection even within the episode itself. Dex was also awarded such an arsenal of abilities that Superman could not even dream of. Which is fine for a sitcom, but he's an action show. The thought involuntarily creeps in why he doesn’t use all this in battle. Also, the same Clark Kent uses powers when necessary and only occasionally for fun. Dex wastes them on all sorts of nonsense, sometimes even harmful. And I don’t even want to remember how idiotic his connection with the bugs brought the show to. Let's move on to the Stewarts. The problem with them is best seen in comparison to the Sahara family from Black RX. The Sugars are good people, which they have repeatedly (more often than the Stuarts) confirmed in both words and deeds. But at the same time they can make mistakes, be stupid, quarrel and do wrong. Therefore, they are perceived by living people. And they also had Hitomi, who, although children are usually scolded in tokusatsu, looked truly scared in the scenes with the monsters. The Stewarts are a glossy picture of the American nuclear family, only with the racial diversity introduced by modernity. They are not real and therefore boring, despite all their adventures. And even in idealization there is nothing wrong when it is not divorced from reality. But even the kindest people, living together, will quarrel. At least because of the open window. And the Stewarts, for all their kindness and gentleness, are not at all ashamed of the whole family to laugh at a teenager who finds himself without clothes or a girl with whom the rider will not go on a date. I'm talking about Patsy and Herbie. In general, it is interesting that these two switched statuses between bullies and useless friends, but mocked them even in those episodes where they did nothing wrong and did not even think about it. Another strange thing and minus of this show. Well, the time has come to discuss the one without whose mention not a single review of this show is complete. Hateful Ferbus. Based on the first episode, I found him cute enough and thought it was some kind of nit-picking of Yurusen from Ghost. But later... There is so much Ferbus that sometimes he seems to be the main character of the show. Saban clearly intended to make him popular, but the writers have absolutely no idea how characters like this work. Alpha 5 is useful, there are a lot of Beetleborg monsters, and they can talk. Ferbus needed to hum funny in the background and occasionally serve things up. Instead, he takes up more than half of most episodes, while mostly being mischievous. And the victims of his pranks are not always scoundrels or those designated as such, but sometimes completely random people. Add to that the show's poor comedy and you can see why Ferbus is perceived as a villain. And those cases when he helps and even saves are simply forgotten, unnoticeable against the background of the destruction he caused. After all of the above, I don’t even want to scold the villains. Yes, the SMR did not even have all the costumes of General Jark’s retinue, but this was not particularly noticeable. Yes, compared to the Crisis Empire, the local evildoers are much more primitive, because the local evildoers, even though they were cruel despots, saved their dying world. Yes, their plans are very limited and boring, and there is almost no character, so I call them after the originals, but compared to everything else, this is not much of an eyesore. At the same time, I cannot say that everything is bad with SMR. I liked Magna and Chopper. They weren't annoying and were used much more creatively than in the original show. The talking vehicles added a lot of variety to the show and their special effects were pretty cool. Also, as I wrote above, some of the plot decisions had potential. I liked the episode about Dex's poisoning and the unification of his earthly family and grandfather. But they didn’t follow through with the idea. In general, towards the end the show noticeably improved. Ferbus faded into the background, there were noticeably fewer jokes, and the plots became more inventive and memorable. Perhaps Saban still needed to film a full-fledged finale. Another advantage of the show is the almost complete refusal to directly copy the original. Most of the actors acted well and were likable in their roles. I also liked Gedorian's rhymes and the various themed outfits of the mother of the family, even if they weren't enough for all the episodes. To summarize, SMR is best characterized by the same mixed up names of riders. Its creators are too proud to simply copy, and too lazy and/or mediocre to invent their own. That's why the show failed and even after so many years it receives well-deserved hate. After all, even the absence of something good is not as bad as its non-use and trampling into the dirt. P.S. Also some of the episodes I watched were recorded from TV and... In 95 there were three commercial breaks per 20 minute episode?! Unhappy children! Last edited by Mesnick; 10-13-2024 at 06:30 PM.. |

Without knowing what "senbei" means, I thought the design looked like raisins, but I guess I was being unraisinable? (Hai, Aruto ja naito!)
