And the two Briden pilot grunts must be a nod to Fiveman and GogoV and a hint of Gouraiger, right?
Also, Hoeru/Gozyu Wolf's dad in Hoeru's family photo is apparently Hiroyuki Matsumoto who played Gamel's human form in Kamen Rider OOO.

With this episode's heavy emphasis on family, we actually learn something new about each members of the Gozyugers (except Rikuo):

- Kinjiro/Joji's wife has passed away, and he has an estranged relationship with his grandson, who also happens to be one of his classmates in the school that he has enrolled in.

- Sumino has a younger sister who is currently missing, something that Prime Minister Atami seems to be aware of. For some reason, she is unable to transform into Gozyu Unicorn yet despite already possessing its ring.

- Ryugi's father is a doctor, and both seems to have an estranged relationship as well.

- Hoeru has kept a photo of what appears to be his family, which consists of him, his parents, and an older brother. Based on the flashback in Episode 1, looks like something bad has happened to the family in the past.

Okay so I though this show was fun so far but now it really got me hooked.

Kinjiro is one of the most interesting Rangers I've ever seen, that's such a cool setup.

And I generally dig the style of this show, even if it relies heavily on stock footage and green screen, it still hypes me up every time they start a "Number One Battle".

[Sh Ranger]

That shady prosecutor guy was a dishonor to the proud name of Ryusoul Red! He must've been, like, the No.1 Fraud or something. Not worthy of calling himself a knight, with access to one of the most OP power sets in Sentai. Don Momotarou has already defeated 3 Rangers, which is pretty impressive, but it was a humiliatingly one-sided fight in this case.

Inoue said she excels at surreal stories. We could see it in Gotchard and it's definitely showing here as well. First ever grandfather to part of the core team. Takehara is a serious man who wants to be hip, which may sound like a contradiction, but actually, the most hip guys are also the most serious. Stuff like fighting for your dream is worth getting serious about, after all. I mean, if that dude on the roof wasn't serious about being hip, then he wouldn't have been turned in to a No.1 Monster. Takehara is a cool guy deep down, but he expresses his coolness is a lame old guy way, so I guess his arc will be about leaning to see his value to those around him, as they interact with his Kinjirou persona while praising him for his Joji side.

He's good and all, but I prefer the No.1 Track Athlete and Karuta Queen! It's a shame that Shinjo is retired, as I'd like to see her portray a No.1 Universe Ranger like Red Turbo.

The Battle Royale format is a pretty fresh concept for Sentai that usually values teamwork. Exciting to see who'll win each week, whether it's a Gozyuger or No.1 Universe Ranger.

Considering how Yui Koike came back after somewhat years and Ayuri Konno returned for the 10th anniversary of her show post-retirement, I say keep the hope alive.
