The characters are pretty likable for sure, with good chemistry between the cast. I'd call Kuroda my favorite as well (just like Kiramager, my favorite is the emerald-themed one), but I could easily say something good about all of them.
I'll update my own Showa Sentai Ranking when I finish JAKQ later this week.

I am now 20 episodes into Changeman and I also just started my rewatch of Go-Busters.

Firstly, JAKQ's theme song is awesome! The show is deeply flawed though and I mean that in mostly an objective way that is already common knowledge. It has some fresh and cool ideas, but I guess the ratings decline is due to the weak sense of identity. Just by looking at the episode titles, we can see the feeling of inconsistency, its true face as changing as Bamba's disguises. Subjectively, I think it's a short easily digestible show with mostly enjoyable episodes and fairly decent characters, especially Higashi and Bamba. Just that the plot is too thin, with one of the least interesting villain factions. Well, not counting Crocodile Hitler of course. He's more despicable than the starfish.
Showa Sentai Ranking: 1) Flashman 2) Bioman 3) Liveman 4) Goranger 5) Goggle V 6) Denjiman 7) JAKQ 8) Sun Vulcan I'm sure Tame could've learned some useful Shogi-related tactics from Kuroda to defeat a Shogi Marrskman or something like that.

I inexplicably started watching Goranger as of today despite currently being in a five-part story arc of Changeman.

Watched another set of episodes of Goranger today and I am already past the episode where Sun Halo Mask makes his first appearance in the series. I am also 16 episodes into my Go-Busters rewatch.

Started watching Changeman. So far so typical, but not bad. The first few episodes seemed too technical, focusing entirely on fighting monsters. But luckily, later in the show there was room for humanity (ironically, often associated with aliens). I also really like how the ground is set for the villains to develop. It's done in a fairly straightforward manner, but for a period where the status quo was usually changed in the same episode where new circumstances were announced, it's still pretty neat and meticulous. It's also funny that a show that relies so heavily on military ideals actually begins with the main characters deserting. It's also interesting that Tsurugi, with his rumpled coat, resembles a police detective or a noir private investigator, but there's no hint of investigative inclination in his character. So I'll keep watching.

Side note, this show's theme song is Hironobu Kageyama's first tokusatsu song iirc and the very one that helped him rebrand himself as the theme song legend he is now thanks to its success. Had it not been Maskman's theme probably would've been sung by someone else. And might I add, you picked a good year to watch this show because it turned 40 this year, milestone and all.
