They do. I understand that they're Basic figures, but the fact that they couldn't even be bothered to paint the eyes on the helmets really bothers me. It also doesn't help that we've had other Basic figs both in the past and current that look way better. Case in point, the Action Hero Tyranno Ranger:
![]() ![]() As for Playmates, I hope they improve the quality. The fact that the gold parts aren't the same color as a pair of Timbs is a good sign for me, but they need to step their quality game up. I personally liked their Ninja Turtles stuff so I hope they deliver.

1990s - The "holy crap, kids actually like this stuff" era
2010s - The "You should have disposable income right you 20 somethings?" 2020s - We are now in the "you 30 somethings better be having kids and buying toys of considerably worse quality for your kids who didn't grow up with MMPR" era. I'm genuinely perplexed by this out of touch logic by Hasbro. Sorry but this YouTube relaunch of MMPR is no different from Disney's attempts at revamping MMPR with new dialog in 2010. It's not going to help Playmates sell any of their toys. The reason why the brand is failing is because it's stagnant and the merchandise quality dipped heavily while cost continued to inflate. Sure in the 2010s the Legacy line was mildly successful but the quality and price was somewhat reasonable. But the standard toys really dipped in quality around that time. At least the kids had current shows that tied in to the toy lines though. All of the momentum built up to a failed theatrical reboot. DC was also a struggling brand around the same time. Now it's being rebooted with toys that are selling at a loss to get kids invested in the new Superman movie coming out. That's what Power Rangers needs. It doesn't need MMPR for the 1,000th time. It needs a fresh start with quality toys sold at a loss to get kids invested and older fans reinvested in the brand. And for Christ sake please respect Power Rangers history instead of always defaulting to MMPR! It's the 20th anniversary of SPD. Where are the SPD merch? 25th anniversary of Light Speed Rescue.Where's the merch? Also, if we are going to do anything for MMPR it's the 30th anniversary of MMPR the movie. Why not focus on that? Power Rangers is at a "either shit or get off the pot" moment right now. What's being done right now just makes no sense. What if instead of a new movie, DC just re-released Batman '66 on YouTube and marketed a new line of toys from that era to children? Kids wouldn't watch it. It's too old. The only ones buying Adam West Batman toys are adults. And the only reason why it does so well is because the Boomer generation that grew up watching it has more disposable income that younger generations. Power Rangers needs a new direction with either a new series or film that can target the four quadrants, and toys for that new era that sell at a loss to get fans invested in the brand again. |
