I'd like to say it was around the start of Gozyuger? When we were learning how they decided the name. I can't remember the specific interview but one tidbit of it had been popping up in my circles that I can share.
While not directly confirming them wanting to rebrand, it's clear that they're wanting to do new things with how the series is named just from this little snippet. Which you know, given the rumors of what we're getting next year having a different naming convention would fit with this line of thought. |

I had forgotten about the whole "Toei is working on a new tokusatsu series" rumor. I certainly think it is related to whatever is happening with Sentai at the very least, but am struggling to find the source where the new series was brought up. Does anyone have a link?
EDIT: I couldnt find that video easily, but i found a video breaking it down. To be clear i didnt watch this video, but in it he is watching the video i'm talking about. Maybe he links it as well. No worries, we are all reading/writing like mad trying to calm our nerves about this haha! Just wanted to clarify the misunderstanding. |

![]() I really hope Toei and TV Asahi gives everyone a clear answer ASAP, because if it's done for good, than so be it. But the possibility of rebranding and keeping it going in some form or another is always welcome.

Apparently money made off Super Sentai wasn't enough to offset production costs

I think overall you are very much right, it doesn't make sense that a company that now publically acknowledges its future has to be international would be looking at local income over a short window, not to mention during during a period where they are enacting major change, before they have seen the effects of such change.
This company has been around decades y'all, they DO NOT pivot in a matter of 3 months from "We are moving to producing our 2 decades-long running shows at unprecedented scale to catch international audiences ALONG WITH A 3RD NBEW SHOW" to "We are cancelling our most internationally, generationally, known series, because niche local live shows aren't generating enough income and toy sales are... as expected last year and the year before... down, we just didn't realize this all 3 months ago." BUT!!! I DO believe there is a kernel of truth there. Theres a good chance that new numbers prove to them that they need to force new initiatives. They may move away from local lives to doing more streamed specials, because the audience, as they MUST have realize, is ALL ONLINE. You are not talking to someone in person about toku rihgt now. I do not know what continent you are from. This has been major talk in the Toku community for longer than the "Toku Decline/Cancellation Debate", we all know that many many potential revenue streams have been being ignored as old revenue streams dry up. The Toku merch available in the west has never been adequate, live streaming with subs took way too long, etc. TOEI finally, 3 months ago acknowleged a whole series of problems that when fixed could lead to serious hikes in revenue AND projected revenue. New markets create HUGE income potential for companies like this with established infrastructure. Basically, to sum it up, i suspect if ANYTHING negative happens, its going to be a short break and a return with one of the most decked-out glossy sentai you've ever seen (Maybe with a naming convention change but I'm highly skeptical about that.) |
