A series of mysterious runaway incidents has occurred on MultiEarth ∧8018. The runaways appear to be caused by long-range sniping by a Nega Emorgy.

I rather liked this one, even if it feels a bit like Reiji and Setsuna have TOO passionate a bond after interacting in like... only 2 previous episodes? The bit with AGI and Setsuna having a real talk between artificial lifeforms was nice, as was the scene with Amo and Reiji. Still just dying for some multiparters in this show though, the show is WAY too aggresive about keeping things self-contained.

As I wrote in the previous episode's thread: a sniper hunting heroes is a classic Showa plot. But I must say, Showa managed to tell it engagingly and in its own unique way. The fact that 999 is Setsuni's former comrade in war creates a parallel with Death Gavan for Reiji. The exchange of partners also helps better flesh out the characters and their personalities. The calm and reasonable Amo listens to Reiji, gently pointing out that he shouldn't carry such an impossible load alone. And the cheerful Agi shows Setsuna that even machines can smile.
Also, the duel between the two Gavans was very spectacular and brutal. And this is despite it consisting almost entirely of fight choreography. The costume actors gave it their all. The ending was also intriguing. Sure, it's obvious Death Gavan isn't acting alone, but this buildup for an as-yet-unveiled enemy definitely helps create a sense of menace. And returning to Luminos Earth again will be great, too. This episode can be considered the culmination of all the previous ones involving Setsuna. So I expect the same for Kiki and Koto in the next one. |
