Names shouldn't be translated I agree, because, well, they're names. Just like how Japanese character will have English words in their names. You don't translate that, afterall. That would honestly cause the same problem as before, since names are easier to identify and accociate than regular words. Translating them could very well make it harder to understand what they're saying. Last edited by SPLIT LIP; 01-22-2013 at 10:55 AM.. |

I'd imagine elsewhere, because those who really hate TV-N are very vocal about it.

Yeah, I don't know if I'd go that far. I can't stand them myself, that's about it.

Finished episode 43 of Agito last night. Things are really starting to heat up! Looking forward to see how everything wraps up! Definitely one of my favorite Kamen Rider series so far!

				 | Quote: I'm not talking about taking portions of the name and translating it, but when the characters' naming scheme is [Character name] The [Noun/Verb], it's the second part that I feel is needlessly kept untranslated. Anyway, I prefer OT and GUIS subs, and someone needs to tell TVN that the point of including the fancy karaoke is, you know, for karaoke, so having the upcoming words upside down and backwords kinds defeats the purpose.

Finished watching Kiva today. Started watching it basically because the base version of Kiva is one of my favourite toku suit designs ever and the horror theme was a hook as well. I quite enjoyed it, even if the two different time periods was a bit difficult to juggle at first. Wataru was a fun character--in over his head frequently and pretty much entirely the opposite of his father. Balancing the two meant Wataru didn't get Shinji Ikari levels of insufferable (well, to me, anyways) and Wataru actually pulled out of his tailspin and did some good. I quite enjoyed it. No idea which series I'll watch next, tho. |

				 | Quote: "Cursing them so?" "Dedicate the effort?" Are you refering to us or someplace else where you've seen TV Nihon picked on, because one statement is hardly "cursing" them or some grand, dedicated effort. Last I checked. It just comes down to "what is easiest to understand" and half-translated sentences with honourifics, the meaning of which are completely lost on me as a non-Japanese speaker, does not make it easy to understand while I'm watching the action. I can understand where it's difficult for people too. TVN did not do a good job by any stretch of the word when it came to translating a lot of the individual phrases from Gekiranger. The viewer is just kind of expected to figure them out over time. I guess it just bothers some people a whole lot more than others. |

I prefer OT to TV-N, but TV-N is still fine. It might just be I've accepted the fact that there aren't many options when it comes to 00's shows. As for translating names, I agree that they should stay the same. Although I do find it hilarious that OT translated part of Go-Buster King back into Japanese.
