I also feel the Jetman episode of Gokaiger gives an even greater perspective towards Gai's character. Like, just watch that episode after the Jetman finale and Gai becomes even greater.

I knew that it happened before I even started the series, so I was expecting it to happen before the end. Then I find out it's in this little clip that was tacked on to the ending after a very unclimactic battle against Radiguet? He was killed by a purse snatcher's tiny knife? He didn't even bother trying to go to the hospital? Having him die putting his friends before himself was a great idea, showing development from the loner that he was at first, but it was poorly executed.

If you think its poorly executed then I recommend the Jetman themed episode of Gokaiger. Its a nice footnote to Gai.

Sadly, Gai had to die since he is basically Condor no Joe from Gatchaman.

I didn't like that Gai was going after the Pink Ranger her and Red were lames they deserved each other. Black was too cool for that nonsense.
Black vs Grey was the best thing ever. Couldn't find Gatchaman but I downloaded Battle of the Planets look forward to watching it one day |

Well, in terms of the story, it was kind of necessary.
Gai didn't want to be a Jetman, and unlike Raita, Ako, and Kaori (Who also didn't want to be Jetmen), he didn't really care enough about others to do so out of the goodness in his heart. For the first arc in Jetman, it was basically his desire to win Kaori (As well as his drive to beat Ryu) that kept him on the team. Besides, love makes everyone do things they never thought they would.

Sometimes I wonder what if they pulled a Bioman and killed him off mid-show and had Wakamatsu be a whole new different character aka Green Eagle.
Not neccessarily follow that epilogue spinoff manga panel-by-panel but say he is the more by-the-book twin brother of Gai etc. I still love how they finished the show but thoughts anyone?

I don't think that would work. Gai's death caps not only caps off his story arc, but the character is integral in Ryu's development as well.
To have it happen in the middle of the series would just feel sloppy.

No objection there.
But suppose they wrote it so that Gai became this brother from another mother or Date-san figure to Ryu early on and killed him off say around 15ish maybe? Again I have nothing against the story but if they went another route I would not mind that.
