In Pacific Rim, the Kaiju Leatherback is a massive category IV sized creature that wreaks havoc on the heroic Jaegers and the whole of Hong Kong.
The designers at NECA accurately capture the look and bulk of Leatherback with the figure released in Series 2 of their Pacific Rim line. The figure stands at approximately 8 inches with it's 'hunched' posture and has a surprising 24 points of articulation. This includes individually moving claws, ankles, and a hinged jaw. Leatherback weighs in at a ridiculous 1 pound, 6.5 ounces, over 3 times the weight of Gipsy Danger. Despite the weight and size of each arm, they can still be posed in a variety of ways (given your figure has tight joints). Check out the gallery after the jump! Aww, Crimson is giving him a scratchy on his face.
Love this Kaiju. Awesome design, awesome personality (he was kind of like a big curious dog) and an awesome death. Can't wait to open him on Christmas morning. BTW, since there's no dedicated PR toy thread, NECA has revealed they're doing a deluxe line of Kaiju, including a battle-damaged Knifehead in scale with Gipsy, and Tresspasser! ![]() Also, BBTS has preorders for both the above kaiju and Cherno Alpha and Coyote Tango. |

Axehead and Tresspasser are the same thing. Axehead was it's working name, while Tresspasser is the name found in all official media. I believe the art book, or something like that, rectified the issue by having "Axehead" be it's retroactive name given once the kaiju naming convention came to pass. I'm quite excited for this line now, seeing the revised figures shows NECA's finally backing the line full-force. Last edited by SPLIT LIP; 11-21-2013 at 12:22 AM.. |

I have Gypsy and Knifehead on their way from BBTS. I may have to see if I can find Leatherback to join them on the shelf. He looks fantastic, I really like the bulky arms!

I loved the Pacific Rim figures but, of mine, only Knife Head wants to stay standing.

No, I know that. I just didn't have the Knifehead photo in my Photobucket. It's in the BBTS link, though. It's large and has "kaiju blue" on it. Axehead is not a Knifehead remould, but an all new, much larger figure with increased articulation like ball jointed shoulders and a neck joint.

Is it me or is it that all those points of articulation will pretty much be useless except for some funky hand gestures?
His shoulders seem to be simple swivel cuts? Or perhaps limited ball joints? Since we don't see him spreading out his arms. There doesn't seem to be bicep swivels either. So unless the shoulders are highly articulated, it doesn't seem like he's actually all that poseable. Same deal with the hips, which seem to be just cuts? A straight standing pose seems like it'll result in a small footprint. Looks fantastic, but all those points of articulation seem pointless. I'd probably still get it anyway. Just sayin' |
