Access 01: Reboot

In the far future, technology has evolved beyond anyone’s wildest dreams, The internet has evolved into the N.E.O network, a place where artificial beings strive to make everyday living easier for humans. However, there are those that will use this technology to fulfill their own vile ambitions. ABEND, an infamous crime organization stands at the top of the food chain. CPU is an speicalized organization dedicated to not only protect the N.E.O Network, but to also stop ABEND’s criminal activities.

It is a dark, dreary night, a blackout was in effect for reasons unknown. “Stop right there, in the name of the law!” A man orders. A shadowy figure runs in response to the armored man. The armored man, along with another give chase leaping from rooftop to rooftop. The darkness made it difficult to distinguish between the three figures. The soft glow from the suits of the two men, and the seemingly more menacing third figure was the only thing keeping them from being in complete darkness.

One man fires a shot at the ground by the menacing figure’s feet, however the figure jumps upward, dodging the attack. “You missed! You know Will, for our rifleman you sure are a lousy shot!” The one man yells. Will smacks his companion on the arm “Hey, I never miss! And you’re not suppose to use my real name in the field Nathan!” Nathan blinks “Oops! Sorry, I mean Black! Hey, you used MY real name too!” Will shook his head with a sigh, "Bad guy first, argue later!". At that moment the mysterious figure lands on the rooftop, however the misfired shot from Will had caused the roof to become unstable. The figure falls down into the alley below as a result. “See! Told you I never miss.” Will gloats.

Will and Nathan would leap down after him, the menacing figure is buried underneath a pile of garbage. “No where to run now, C!” Slowly the two advances towards the pile, like a cat cornering a mouse. Just as they neared the large lump, two robotic figures would leap out of a portal and begin to engage Will and Nathan “Owe, h-hey what the?!” Will is smacked on the back while Nathan is kneed in the gut, this causes Will to drop his weapon but he quickly retaliates by throwing a punch of his own. At that time, C glances up and notices another armored figure, this one had glowing purple lights. C gave a simple nod before vanishing behind a portable.

Just as C vanished, Will and Nathan quickly made short work of their opponents. “Argh, he got away...Jordan isn’t going to be happy about this...” Will kicks a nearby garbage can in frustration, while Nathan grumbles “This stinks!” Will gives Nathan a stern glance, before shaking his head and walks away. “Awe c’mon...it’s funny! Hey, wait for me!”

Elsewhere , C enters a darkened throne room and bows in front of a mysterious man. The man is wearing sunglasses and a trench coat “I take it you were successful in your mission?” The man in the trenchcoat asks. C nods and presents the figure with an object, “Of course. Here are the nanites you asked me to retrieve,” C states matter-of-factly “Unlike a certain someone, I can stay focused on my job” The Armored woman from earlier glances up from her nails and scoffs, “You don’t want to see what I can do when turn that focus on you...C” Slowly, C turns towards the woman reaching for the sword strapped to his hip “Is that a challenge?” He asks, confrontingly. In response, the woman materializes a gun in her hand, pointing it straight towards C’s head. “Maybe it is...c’mon, big boy give me an excuse, we all know I can blow that head of yours clean off before you even draw your weapon...”

C growls at the woman, readying himself in a fighting stance “Do not test me, Unix!” Suddenly, a gunshot is fired, breaking the tension. “Enough, both of you. I swear it’s like I’m surrounded by children.” The man complains with a headacheful sigh. C turns his attention and bows “Forgive me, Xerox...” He apologizes. Unix laughs “I do so love the way Xerox has you wrapped around his little finger.” Xerox gives Unix a glare and gives her a menacing growl, Unix clears her throat and quickly bows “Y-yes, well then I suppose I’m up to bat?” Xerox nods. Unix giggles excitedly in response “Well then, it’s time to liven this place up a little...I already have a Virus doing his thing.” Unix giggles once more before vanishing. “...is it wise to leave her unintended, Xerox sir?” C asks, with a heir of concern to his voice.

Xerox nods, reassuring C, “Her task keeps those CPU fools occupied enough, as long as she doesn’t step out of line, she is free to do as she pleases,” Xerox states, “But do keep an eye on her all the same, C...do not hesitate to put her down if she does anything to endanger us.” C simply nods before taking his leave, while Xerox turns his attention to the nanite. “Soon....” He says; full of anticipation.

The next day:


“THIS is the place?” a young man wearing a CPU uniform asks himself. He stares at the fancy glass sign (sporting the same letters as his uniform) on top of the entrance to a small office building. The young man scratches his head in confusion, in his hand he carries a piece of paper with an address scribbled on it. Still skeptical, he hesitatingly walks inside. He is then greeted by the refreshing air of the building’s air conditioning system, a welcome change from the sweltering heat he had been standing in but a moment ago. He approaches a desk, tended to by an elegantly dressed woman wearing a headpiece. “Excuse me...is this CPU HQ? I have an appointment with the Commander.” The young man asks sheepishly. The woman glanced up from her computer monitor and smiled “You must be Reggie right? Just take this access card and head on down to the elevator at the end of the hallway. Just insert that card into the panel and it’ll take you down to the command center, good luck!”

The clerk smiled softly at Reggie, which He returned with a nod. He took the access card and did exactly what the clerk told him to do: down the hallway and into the elevator. The elevator made it’s long descent down several floors, and as the elevator came down Reggie caught a glimpse of a massive hangar that had been hidden underground. Reggie could only star in awe at the sight of this technical marvel. Finally, the elevator came to a stop and there he was inside the command center: a big circular room with many computer monitors lined up end to end. Holographic screens could also be seen floating around the room; displaying various CPU operatives on the field, and sitting in the centre of it all was the Commander, his uniform was a dark crimson red and much more ornate compared to everyone else’s.

Slowly, the Commander turns and greets Reggie with a welcoming smile, his uniform was decorated with various medals. “You must be Reggie, welcome to CPU, my name is Jordan and I will be your commanding officer from this day forward.” Jordan offers Reggie his hand, encased in a white silk glove, Reggie nervously accepts the handshake. “It’s an...um...an h-honor to meet you sir, I’m Reggie...but you already know that and...wow, is it getting hot in here or is it just me?” Reggie stutters.

Will and Nathan sit down in chairs next to him, they couldn’t help but laugh at the stuttering Reggie’s expense. “Tongue tied and star struck on his first day...not exactly a good first impression.” Nathan teases. Will gently slaps Nathan on the arm “Hey, give the kid a break, at least he’s not wetting himself right now.” Will tells Nathan mockingly. Nathan scowls back at Will “How many times do you have to bring that up? I keep telling you that I walked into a mop bucket on the way in!” Nathan says, flustered. Jordan clears his throat causing Will and Nathan to look back at him “Uh...s-sorry.”

Jordan could only sigh apathetically at the sight of this immaturity “Right then....” Suddenly a blaring alarm begins to sound, interrupting Jordan, “Viral signature detected...scanning....location confirmed: Point 2A1!” The operator said, a holographic monitor would display a map with a blinking red light indicating the location of the attack. “ABEND again...just our luck...with Alex taking a day off we’re down one member!” Jordan yells, aggravated. “The bastard isn’t answering his phone either.” Nathan explains. Jordan grimaces “When I get my hands on him...” He turns towards Reggie and reaches for a metal suitcase with a green T written on it “I’d hate to ask this of you...under normal circumstances I wouldn’t send you out into the field without assessing your combat abilities first hand but...this is an emergency.” Jordan says opening the suitcase.

The suitcase pops open, revealing the contents to be a high-tech looking wrist device. Reggie’s face lights up in wonder, like a kid on Christmas, he takes the device and inspects it, admiring the craftsmanship. “Wow this is so cool!” Reggie straps the device on his wrist and pokes at it a little “Um...how does this thing work?” Jordan raises an eyebrow, Nathan and Will looks at one another worriedly. “We’re boned...” Will says with a cynical tinge to his voice. Nathan nods “Yup.” Jordan lets out a sigh “Will, Nathan I trust the two of you to back him up?” Will and Nathan nod “Yup, you can count on us.” Nathan places his hand on Reggie’s shoulder “C’mon, new guy.” Nathan says with a friendly smirk, signalling Reggie to follow him. Reggie nods and the three run out of the room.

A busy shopping district had turn into pure chaos, the place was now crawling with Wurms, the robotic minions of ABEND. Among the foot soldiers, one creature stood out amongst them: a robot that resembled a vacuum cleaner on two legs with a giant gun arm. “AHAHAHAHAHA! That’s right boys! More, more chaos for Mistress Unix!” The vacuum monster yells, while laughing maniacally, he then turns and fires at the buildings. The buildings explode, causing debris to fall down onto the ground. Nathan, Will, and Reggie arrive on the scene “So much chaos and destruction...this has Unix written all over it.” Will says, seriously. Reggie turns to Will and blinks in confusion “Unix?” He asks raising an eyebrow. Will and Nathan turned to Reggie, speechless “...you’re kidding right?” Nathan asks in disbelief. Will rolls his eyes, “Unix is one of ABEND’s top lieutenants and high on CPU’s most wanted list,” Will explains “Haven’t you gone over the case files?” “It’s my first day, and I’m already fighting monsters cut me a little slack will ya?!” Reggie complains. The monster notices the three and laughs. “Well, well, well! If it isn’t the ModRangers I’ve been hearing so much about! Mistress Unix will reward me greatly if I, the great Vacuumvirus, defeat you!” VacuumVirus says, while intoducing himself “Wurms! Attack!”

The monsters ready their weapons. Nathan and Will, however, merely smirk at this sight “Watch and learn, new guy!” Nathan orders Reggie “Ready Will?” He asks. Will adjusts his glasses, “Born ready.” Will responds with a grin. The two press a button on their ModBraces, and the device activates with a green blinking light, then a computerized voice from the device calls out: “PROG.MODSUIT: READY” “Attack, attack!” The Wurms cry out while opening fire towards Will and Nathan.

Reggie gasps in fear as the shots come flying towards him, but a green barrier rises up, deflecting the blasts. Will and Nathan both heroically shout: “Mod Acces! Log in!” In response, the Brace says in its computerized voice: “BLACK, COMMENCING DOWNLOAD” “BLUE COMMENCING DOWNLOAD” Binary code appears in front of their bodies, forming a familiar T shape color coded to match Will and Nathan’s designations. The T raises just in time to deflect the shots fired at the two, causing explosions around them. The T would then move back, passing through their bodies and bathes the two in a glowing light. The light subsides revealing their futuristic, and somewhat Tron-esque battle suits. The two pose heroically, shouting “Tokunation Sentai! Modranger!”.

“Is that suppose to impress me?” VacuumVirus growls “Attack!” The Vacuumvirus and Wurms all charge forward. “Keep up if you can, Reg!” Nathan yells. Will and Nathan both reachfor their braces, tapping them once. The brace would respond: “DOWNLOADING M-BLASTERS” A medium sized fire arm with a blade attachment materialized in their hands, Will would leap into the air, firing at a bunch of Wurms while Nathan flicked the weapon into sword mode and slashed his way through the horde.

Reggie stands on the sidelines, watching mouth agape as the two fought. “Coooool…” He says with amzement in his voice “Alright, it’s my turn!” Reggie reaches over towards towards his own ModBrace, it responds in the same manner, again the device responds: “PROG.MODSUIT: READY Reggie shouts, “Mod Access! Log In!” The same T but in Red appears in front of Reggie’s body his own device calls out “RED. COMMENCING DOWNLOAD” , Reggie lets out a hot blooded yell as he runs into the T shape, his body becomes surrounded by a bright glowing light before his own suit is formed. Reggie leaps into the air, delivering a flying punch directly at the monster’s head before it had a chance to blindside Nathan “Heads up!” Reggie shouts, landing in front of him he cracks his knuckles and grins before moving in to engage the monster “Hey, bad jokes are MY shtick!” Nathan yells at Reggie “Should we leave him alone Will?” Will is pinned to the wall with three Wurms pushing him back, his M-Blaster was switches to Sword Mode as he locks weapons with them. “We’ve got our hands full as it is, Nathan! Let’s see what the newbie can do!” Will says. He pushes the foot soldiers off of him, and retaliates by making a clear slash, while Nathan continues to fire away.

Reggie’s attacks against the slow moving moving monster were both fast and relentless. “Quit moving around so I can hit ya!” VacuumVirus screams out in frustration Reggie chuckles “Like that’s gonna happen!” He yells confidently. Reggie taps his ModBrace, which then announces: “ACCESSING PROG.M-BLASTER” His own weapon materializes in his hand. “Now you’re really making me mad!” VacuumVirus yells in frustration. The monster brings down his gun arm, but Reggie manages to block the attack with his sword. He parries before switching to Blaster Mode. and firing on the monster a couple of times. VacuumVirus staggers back, with smoke rising from the spots where he was hit. At that moment, Will and Nathan arrive on the scene “Hey, not bad newbie.”Nathan compliments Reggie “Let’s finish this guy off.” Reggie nods in response. Holding onto the trigger, the trio raise their M-Blasters to the air with the blaster announcing: “EXECUTING DELETE.PROG” at that moment the Monster regains his footing, staggering a bit as he stood. Multi-colored crosshairs would appear on his body. “Uh-oh!” VacuumVirus says in response. Reggie waves mockingly at the monster “Buh-bye” he says. The three of them fire, getting pushed back slightly by the recoil. The three multi colored shots would zoom towards the creature before coming together into a large ball about the same size as the monster itself. The ball strikes the monster, and he slowly falls backwards, exploding in a tower of flame.

Reggie pumps both fists into the air before exclaiming “That was awesome!!!” He turns to Will and Nathan “Hey, hey! Please tell me this is where the monster grows big, and we gotta take him out again in our giant robot!” Reggie pleads. Will and Nathan look at each other “Um...we have a giant robot right?” Reggie asks. Nathan shakes his head “Reggie man, you watch way too much television….” He says. Will and Nathan turn to leave while Reggie walks over to the debris and pokes at it with his M-Blaster. “Heeeeeeey, wake up!” Reggie orders the now deceased VacuumVirus “Any time now...heeeeeeeeeeeee’s not getting back up again...is he?” Looking up, Reggie notices that he’s the only person left. “H-hey, Wait up!” Reggie yells, chasinng after Will and Nathan.
