Well, I think Hasbro has made up their mind on what to do with the intellectual property going forward…
https://x.com/heritageauction/status...0q11kse_NsviaA Yeah, the auction house is putting up 900 lots worth of costumes and props up for bidding in November. I?m kind of surprised Toei's isn?t interfering with it honestly. But yeah, 30 years worth of history will be in private collections rather than a museum or exhibition, which sucks regardless of your feelings about the show. On the other hand, maybe someone from here can actually afford something from it.

Hasbro doing all they can to kill the show in literally every regard has gotten me to swear off ever buying any Hasbro products ever again.

As sad as this is, I think there is precedent for it. Didn't Christie's have a massive Star Trek auction a good 20 years ago? I think there was even a documentary which was predicated on both Trek history and the actual auction and the fans who acquired the suits and models. I think this was a rush to judgment; too much too soon. I'm not gonna stop buying Hasbro merch cause they're just too damn big, but this shouldn't be forgotten...ever! |

Iirc there was a promotional photo/screenshot during the Super Megaforce Era that showed the Saban/Disney had their own warehouse full of ranger suits and weapons. If so, then perhaps that is where all these items will come from.

You know what though, as sad as it may be at least the auction will be a good way for fans and enthusiasts to acquire them instead of being further mishandled, collecting dust, or taking up space. Last I heard Toei seems to throw away most of their stuff if they go moldy, damaged, or retool them like what they did when producing LuPat out of necessity, which I understand. But since it has been brought up, I'm surprised Toei doesn't do public auctions of such things, at least not that we know of.

Many studios will put up old props up for auction. It just becomes too expensive to have things in storage, especially if they won't be reused again

The capitalist always chooses immediate gain. In the future, organizing a museum could bring more stable income, and interest in the franchise would last longer.

I agree the stuff that we're talking about should be preserved given the franchise's status in pop culture. But at the same time, I don't know if 30 years worth of memoribilia will be sold right away to a museum and if the investment will garner as much people in the long run, and Hasbro probably needs to get rid of the props by a certain deadline to move on with their business.

Organizing a museum wouldn't bring in money, Power Rangers isn't enough of a cultural icon to have demand for such a thing. Having a museum would incur expensive operating costs, and next to no one would bother to go see it more than once. It also wouldn't extend interest at all. A bunch of costumes and props in a niche exhibit you'd have to pay to get into wouldn't generate interest in people who don't already care about Power Rangers.

The auction will arouse even less interest in them, but with a museum there are always options: "I accidentally saw a sign" and "I needed to occupy my time with something". In terms of income and operation, this museum could be made a permanent part of Power Morphicon and then add photos from different years, autographs of actors, and so on. And the costs: I don't think the costumes require special conditions (although I'm not sure about the Cosmic Fury outfits), otherwise they wouldn't last that long. Cleaning up dust and darning if something happens is not particularly expensive. Again, there are 5.5 million unemployed people in the USA, and among them there are clearly those willing to do this for any, even the tiniest, money.
