As for character types I would do the following
Kabuto - Aloof veteran agent who gets the job done. Gatack - Rookie agent considered a nuisance for his inexperience but for some reason is acknowledged by Kabuto. Thebee - Kabuto's rival who has it all except for a trophy for defeating Kabuto yet respects him so much that he will come to his aid if needed. Drake - FPS addict who only fights when he wants to. Sasword - A quiet and loyal man who lives and dies by bushido. Kickhopper Punchhopper - Agents who have a grudge against Kabuto because they were not picked as Kabuto. Ketaros Heracles Caucasus - Kabuto variants based off of Kabuto's data. Dark Kabuto - Enigmatic Kabuto clone who goes berzerk when face to face with Kabuto

Going from what we seen from Gaim so far, I think it can work for a US series. The show has enough gimmicks to support a big toy line in the US.

Or they could do venting again. They kinda dropped the ball at the end - but by all regards Ryuki did too - but it was an interesting way to allow people to die in a kids TV show and could be used in a similar way again.

I would imagine when ToQqer gets adapted into a Power Rangers season that they might try to use the crossover footage unless they bump into legal reasons.

To be honest, in order to adapt say Gaim for the Western market one would have to rewrite an awful lot.
In my experience, Kamen Rider often relies on the out of suit footage for story. More so than SS does at least. Then again that could also be see as a burden lifted. You could take a whole load of suit footage out of context and plug it into any story you wished. Especially when you realise that so much of Gaim is based on reused and recoloured monster costumes. The whole thing is ripe with possibility yes, but at the moment I see the Rider franchise as something few companies would touch. Too much history, too many people to upset, not enough money to work with in relation to the lower ratio of footage to stuff they'd have to film... For some reason power rangers just worked, lord knows how. Not a lot of stuff by Saban has fared quite so well. And who knows if anyone else would want to compete with them. |

That is often why I think Kamen Rider never really took off and why some of the most often picked series for adaptation from fans are some of the worst.
Just think about OOO, probably the most voted series for adaptation from fans, now really think about HOW MUCH you can actually use. Even ignoring how little action that show had comparatively to sentai, Ankh is integral to the mythos and is basically entirely unusable and that isn't mentioning that every transformation in that show is done in real time. Your average sentai episode provides about 80% usable footage, I'd say your average Rider episode has about thirty percent, AT BEST. Shows like Fourze for example, is set in a JAPANESE high school, you'd probably have to reshoot way more than seventy percent of that, I'm sure. That is why I think sentai worked and Rider never did. It also makes sense of why they picked Ryuki, the more Riders = the more footage they have to use, it just makes sense even if you think about the tone, or theme or whatever else. If any show is to be adapted at all, I'm guessing it'll be Kabuto as it has the next most amount of Riders other than Gaim.

At present I think any company thinking of adapting KR would be better served waiting a few years to see what is released. As the franchise goes, the only usable footage being in a show from too many years ago doesn't bode well for the look of the thing. SD and HD don't mesh well after all.
Gaim is recent enough that it wouldn't look so far out of place, but Kabuto? I'm not so sure. In theory I agree with you though. |

Didn't Dragon Knight come out like eight years after Ryuki? We're at about the perfect time for a Kabuto adaptation then!
