Second they'll refuse to translate certain words and phrases due to either "wanting to teach people Japanese" *which is laughable if you've taken an actual Japanese language course or talked to an actual Japanese person* or because it doesn't have an exact equivalent in the English language or they'll translate it strictly word for word as it's written or said in the Japanese language even if it doesn't translate into English very well because weebism. Thus resulting in terribly structured stiff sentences that make no ************* sense, whereas a good subber/dubber will chose the closest phase or equivalent in the language/country it's being translated in *so for an in my case American example an Osaka/Kansai accent is translated to a Texan/Southern accent,san/sensei becomes Mr/Ms and sama/dono becomes lord in a dub* or in some cases rewrite the sentence to make the dialogue more understandable and run smoother to native speakers. Of-course these could probably be ignored as they aren't paid professionals...if they hadn't acted like entitled arrogant shits when SHOUT! Factory started officially subbing Sentai dvds. |

I loooove bashing on TV Nihon but I will admit that their modern subs are a lot better than stuff like Blade. They're still not exactly my first choice when it comes to subs though.

That's neither here or there. The fact is they're one of, if not the most well-known fansub group out there and a huge portion of this fandom doesn't make any effort to seek out anything further than them as a result.

I'd call it 'Duwang Syndrome'. The Duwang scans are the most well-known translations of Jojo Part 4's Manga, despite being absolute shit. Kinda similar then

But in other news, I will give TV-Nihon props in their special animations for the Rider Henshins, Form Changes & Special Attacks.

And they're the other well known one that exactly the same applies to.

I dunno the first half of Drive made me emotional for a little toy car, so I can't really say that it was weak and after that shit ending of Gaim I couldn't wait for Drive all the time afterwards. Now this might be a thing of tastes but the Paranormal/Supernatural/Ghost elements with the historical figures I love the hell out of and the Android Threat/Cop Drama/Superhero elements made Drive amazing too. If it would have ended better I would've been fine with Biblical Break Dance Fighting Fruit too but I wasn't. This is not a fact. I can just as easily say "it does, and that's why people like it," and it would be just as true. Quote:

Also, Double's final episode was good too. I think it's appropriate the show basically has two episodes in a row that both work as a finale. Seriously, I think the TVN hate gets a little blown out of proportion. They actually do decent work half the time, and this is coming from a guy who thinks Aesir's subs for Gaim are the pinnacle of fansubbing.

Ghost. While I like the show, it's still my least favorite Rider show. Where do I even begin?
I hate it when shows create characters just to be comedic. I like it when the humor comes naturally. Like Kamen Rider W. Akiko was the comedy relief of Kamen Rider W, yet that wasn't her only character trait. She was a hard ass, tough kind of girl that served to consistently break down Shotaro's attempts to be hard-boiled. And it was funny. Because the characters played well off of each other. Look at OOO, which is one of my absolute favorite Rider shows ever. Eiji, Ankh, Date, Goto, etc., ALL played well off of each other because the humor came from the clash between all of these personalities. Even Drive did this well once they started establishing their comic relief as actual characters. It was a clash between several eccentric personalities, each with their own unique thinking. I ESPECIALLY loved the dynamic between Shinnosuke, Gou, Chase and Kiriko. That spit take scene in the Kamen Rider Chaser movie where everybody is freakin' out because Chase is acting unusually upbeat is comedy friggin' gold. So in Ghost, they give us Onari. Can anybody describe Onari's personality other than "he screams a lot...for no reason"..? He has occasional moments of generosity, but it's not something that occurs often. And Makoto. I liked Makoto in the beginning but he honestly has no personality now. 40 episodes in and I can't tell you what Makoto's defining character traits are. Then there's the fact that we still keep getting victim of the week plots 40 episodes in that don't tie into the story in any meaningful way. Why? At this point in the show we should already be past any major plot developments and the show should be starting to up the stakes. Honestly the whole middle section of Ghost feels like a total blur outside of Alain joining the good guys. And that's because the overarching story has barely progressed.

I think TVN has taken some of their criticisms to heart. I just watched one of their recent projects today and it had a lot less of the untranslated text compared to their older stuff. Sure, there was the occasional "itadakimasu" and "niisan," but there was actually a "niisan-tachi" translated into "my brothers." That never would've happened a few years ago.
