Finished Mirai Sentai Timeranger (the Sentai that came out the Year I was born!), and it was way better than I was expecting!
While the Timeranger suits aren't my favorite designs, the characters themselves really stood out becoming some of my favorites in Sentai, differing from what I initially had in mind from first impressions, and they all definitely grew on me. The Londerz (I got the money laundering pun) were also an interesting bunch, Don Dolnero's human disguise is exactly what I imagine from him, but he was also a rather surprising villain whenever his ties with some of the other villains was explored. And the mechs were some of my favorites from most of the Sentai I've watched. Time Robo Beta or Time Shadow might be my favorite overall. I had a lot of fun watching this series, but I've also been watching Gekisou Sentai Carranger on the side and am currently halfway through, and boy is this show a riot, I'm really loving it (Signalman is probably one of my favorite parts)! Hope to be able to finish it soon. Carranger is also great though. I actually wasn't too into the humor in the first half, but found the second half hilarious. So since you already enjoy it, it might become even funnier for you from here on out! |

It's a great show! I certainly agree that it isn't the best looking Sentai, but the characters are all fantastic in Timeranger and I like how in-depth the team dynamic was too. Plus a fascinating story about fighting fate, which isn't just reduced to a "we can overcome our destinies if we try hard enough" sort of story. I'm a huge fan!

And finally a (relatively minor) update of Sentai ranking list for sixth rangers. I managed to finish my Go-Busters rewatch today and it's still a very good show.

Fiveman Episode 34:
![]() Packing people into cans to be eaten, mushroom-lizard-man getting really excited at the idea of eating Pink, and the MOTW gets lured into a trap by Yellow flashing him. And this time Inoue was NOT involved (that I could tell).

This is a great show. The characters are genuinely enjoyable and impressive in their development. The villains, while cartoonishly generic and not given any particular arcs, come off as strikingly alive. And the show really makes you feel the gravity and seriousness of the situation, working the time travel theme to its fullest.
They're great just for their time travel. Especially Time Shadow. And I kept wondering if there was some subtext to the fact that the scene of planting the flag on the moon was linked to Dracula and Moses crossing the Red Sea. Quote:

On Carranger, I do get what you're saying, mainly I get a laugh whenever a new monster shows up, since they all look so wonderfully ridiculous and catroony along with how over-the-top they are, or even the fact that they grow giant by eating Imo-Youkan is enough is certainly enough for me. Also, I see Signalman might be a spoof on the Metal Hero series given his theme song, to his name "Kobaan" possibly a spin off Micheal Corben like the other Space Sheriffs, I strangely really enjoy this guy and the hijinks the series has as a whole, especially after the introduction of the Zokurangers who have a variation of the Carranger theme song!

Started watching Sun Vulcan. Well, so far it's a pretty standard, mission-oriented Sentai. What's notable is the very active mentor, who, along with his daughter, seems to do more than the rangers in some episodes. The main feature of this show turned out to be not as important as Damon from Timerangers noted:
![]() Misa plays a significant role in the plot, and the composition of Black Magma is overwhelmingly female. By the way, the idea of bringing back Queen Hedorian was very correct, because Machiko Soga very well dilutes the very straightforward villains of the show. I also want to praise Sun Vulcan for its aesthetics. The troopers are some of the most beautiful in the franchise, and the rangers' outfits literally scream heroism. Also the talking dog is incredibly cute. So overall it's worth watching. P.S. If I can find fault with anything, it's how different VulShark's helmet is. In every close-up shot he seems like a guest star to me. P.P.S. This show is also very into hitting people in the head with a ball. Not only is it Sun Vulcan's finisher, but they also often hit someone in the head with regular non-explosive balls. ![]() |

I am especially fond of the idea that not only do you go through a Time Portal, but that you also have to get punted by a giant robot. It's funny whenever I think about it.
I certainly don't mind either way when it comes to portraying "fighting fate" but I do agree it was very interesting to see how it played out here. Another thing that stands out to me is the how the government got involved in the Sentai affairs, which I know isn't too uncommon with some of them being commissioned by governments or having connections to it like in Boonboomger, but the fact that outside of a group of colorful, spandex clad strangers, we also had another deterrent fighting the monsters, which I thought was neat. Carranger was such an odd show for me humorwise, the early episodes certainly got me to laugh sometimes, but it was almost trying TOO hard to be funny. The turning point for me was the episode about how Signalman literally cannot resist obeying road signs. Starting from that point, the show almost always had me laughing like mad! |

Fun Fact: Yellow Four and Pink Five were originally planned to be dudes, which would've made Bioman the second Sentai with this ratio. Instead, they went the opposite way and gave us 2 girls, with Jun making it 3. Among the talking animal mascots of the Uehara era, CC is the weirdest one. She's not a cyborg or an alien, she's literally just a normal dog that Misa claims to have trained to talk. No wonder Hyou's terrified of her.
